DraftKings Secures Maine Sports Betting License with Passamaquoddy Tribe

DraftKings Sportsbook reached a final agreement with the Passamaquoddy Tribe in the state. After DraftKings secured its license and received regulatory approval, it launched its Maine sports betting platform.

Jason Robins, Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of DraftKings, said in a press release:

“Building a relationship with the Passamaquoddy Tribe is a fantastic opportunity for DraftKings, as we look to bring customers in the state of Maine safe and legal sports betting. We look forward to our continued collaboration with the Maine Gambling Control Unit as we become the official mobile sports betting provider of the Passamaquoddy Tribe and launch in our industry-leading 25th state.”

Chief William Nicholas of the Passamaquoddy Tribe said:

“The Passamaquoddy Tribe is excited to enter into a mobile sports wagering agreement with DraftKings. We couldn’t have landed a better organization in the mobile sports wagering arena, and we look forward to continued progress and investment for future growth in the state of Maine.”

Maine Sports Betting Is Up and Running

Governor Janet Mills signed Maine’s sports betting legislation in the spring of 2022. The law took effect on Aug. 2, 2022, kickstarting the regulatory and licensing phase. On Nov. 3, 2023, the Maine Gambling Control Unit officially launched sports betting in the state.

DraftKings and Caesars are the first two sportsbooks to go live in Maine. The state allows two additional online sports betting licenses.
