Fanatics Enters DC Market as District’s Fifth Sportsbook

Fanatics Sportsbook is now live as the fifth (mostly) citywide online sports betting option in Washington, D.C.

Company officials confirmed its arrival in a Thursday, Sept. 12, announcement. The Fanatics app enters the Washington, D.C., online sports betting market through a licensing partnership with the Washington Spirit, the District’s National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) franchise.

“As we continue to build out our sports betting business, we are excited to partner with the Washington Spirit,” Fanatics Betting and Gaming Chief Business Officer Ari Borod said. “We will look to grow the Fanatics Sportsbook alongside the growing popularity of women’s soccer and women’s sports generally across the country.”

A few months ago, bettors had to travel to betting zones near Washington, D.C., sports venues — or make a trip to Virginia or Maryland to use the best online sports betting apps.

Now, D.C. users can sign up for the newest arrival by using a Fanatics Sportsbook promo code. The District’s other options are BetMGM, Caesars, DraftKings, and FanDuel.

Fanatics Enters DC Market Due to Policy Change

A revamped 2025 city budget threw out the obscure GambetDC Sportsbook and brought in FanDuel as the D.C. Office of Lottery and Gaming’s online sports betting contractor.

The sports betting license reforms also allowed sports betting companies to partner with the city’s pro sports franchises.

“We’re excited to announce our groundbreaking partnership with Fanatics Sportsbook,” said Washington Spirit CEO Kim Stone. “This is another indication of the momentum surrounding the Spirit and women’s sports. This collaboration gives us the chance to enter the sports betting space with a trusted brand, all while staying true to our commitment to integrity, empowering women, and creating great experiences for our fans.”

Washington, D.C., is the 23rd US market for Fanatics Sportsbook. The app is available to 95% of the country’s addressable online sports betting market.

As Fanatics enters the D.C. market, bettors in the nation’s capital should make sure they’re ready for GambetDC’s exit. GambetDC users who have not done so already have until Oct. 15, 2024, to withdraw their funds from the platform.

Fanatics Sportbook is available throughout the District, with the exceptions of federal lands, including:

  • National Mall
  • White House
  • Capitol
  • Congressional office buildings
  • East Potomac Park, and
  • Rock Creek Park.

Capital One Arena, Nationals Park, and St. Elizabeths Arena are blacked out to preserve retail sports betting partnerships, including Caesars and BetMGM.

Bettors can switch to the retail Fanatics Sportsbook option when they’re within two blocks of Audi Field. The Washington Spirit partnership includes in-stadium signage, digital marketing, Audi Field activations for soccer fans, and other tie-ins for fans and ticket holders.
