Fanatics Finding Success With Fair Play Injury Monitoring Program

Earlier in 2024, the sportsbook operator and sports merchandise giant Fanatics launched a new policy on voided bets due to injury.

Fair Play will void a bet or leg of a parlay if a player is injured before a certain point in the game and does not return.

Fanatics said in documents provided to Gaming Today that 7% of recent new customers signed up for an account because of Fair Play.

How Fair Play from Fanatics works

Fanatics has an in-house team that monitors player injuries. If a player is injured within a specific time window and leaves the game, the team monitors the situation:

  • Golf: Before a golfer starts the second round.
  • MLB: Pitchers before they make three outs; batters before their second plate appearance.
  • NBA, NFL, NHL, WNBA: In the first period.

The team provides updates to bettors via social media and at brick-and-mortar Fanatics Sportsbook locations. If the player doesn’t return to the game, Fanatics voids all bets on that player, including parlay legs.

“Once a player is officially ruled out, all bets including that player are voided within 30 minutes,” Fanatics noted. “If the bet is a parlay, that player prop leg gets voided.”

Additionally, if a bettor wagers on the under for a player who gets injured in the first quarter or period, the bettor wins.
