Sportsbook operator FanDuel and Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment have teamed up for market access in Connecticut. Together, the companies will launch a Connecticut sports betting app alongside iGaming and Daily Fantasy Sports. The partnership also includes plans for a retail sportsbook at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut. Mohegan Sun is Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment’s flagship casino property.

“We’re excited to work with FanDuel, one of the leading sports-tech entertainment companies in the U.S. to bring the brand’s innovative sports betting and iGaming solutions to Mohegan Sun Connecticut,” said Ray Pineault, President & CEO of Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment. “Our partnership is a priority for Mohegan Digital, as we look to grow and enhance our casino, sportsbook and online operations in Connecticut – and beyond. We’re confident that FanDuel will deliver a best-in-class digital and in-person experience for our loyal guests.”

Temporary Retail Sportsbook On The Way

Connecticut is currently eyeing September 6 as a tentative launch date for its sports betting and iGaming market. Pending approvals by the Connecticut Lottery and a rigorous licensing and regulatory process, FanDuel and Mohegan could launch on that date.

In the meantime, however, the two companies have agreed to build a temporary retail sportsbook inside the Mohegan Sun property. The temporary location will offer four live betting windows and sixteen self-service betting terminals.

Once all regulatory approvals are in, Mohegan and FanDuel expect to launch a permanent Mohegan Sun sportsbook near the tail-end of 2021.

“Mohegan Sun is an iconic casino and entertainment destination in the Northeast, and we are excited to announce our first tribal gaming partnership with one of the leading tribal operators in the United States,” said Amy Howe, President of FanDuel Group. “We have some incredible plans for the retail space at Mohegan Sun, with the potential to be the largest FanDuel sportsbook in the United States. When we combine the retail sports betting experience with the opportunity for online sports betting and iGaming, Connecticut is going to be a key state for us as we look towards the start of football season.”

Connecticut Sports Betting

Connecticut finds itself in a class of upcoming sportsbook markets expected to accelerate the sector’s growth across the US and North America in 2021 and early 2022. A few markets nearing launch alongside Connecticut are Arizona, Ohio, New York, and Canada.
