As Georgia wasn’t quite through with its 34-11 dismantling of Michigan in the Orange Bowl, multiple Las Vegas sportsbooks hung a betting line for the CFP National Championship game, installing the Bulldogs as 2.5-point favorites over Alabama.

Since those opening numbers were posted, the point spread has bounced between 2.5 and 3 on oddsboards around the betting market. Eight days before the game, the Georgia moneyline could be had for -145 at BetMGM, while Caesars offered an Alabama outright victory at +120.

Spread Adjusted Since SEC Championship Game

The title game is more than a week away – set for Monday, Jan. 10 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis — and line movement is difficult to predict, but the market seems to have found a sweet spot for this number. Alabama bettors will grab the +3 when and where available, Georgia backers will lay -2.5, and the spread will continue to fluctuate ahead of kickoff.

That half-point difference, of course, is critical in football betting. While both championship contenders won in routes in their respective semifinals – Alabama by a 27-6 count over Cincinnati in the Cotton Bowl – bookmakers didn’t see much reason to tweak their numbers for the National Championship. Circa Sports offered Georgia -2.5 on a look-ahead line in the lead-up to the CFP Playoff. The spread is a significant adjustment, however, from the SEC Championship Game closing line of Georgia -6.5, as the market has reacted to Alabama’s 41-24 outright victory on Dec. 4 in Atlanta.

Georgia-Alabama Total

The total has also seen an adjustment from the first meeting of the season between these heavyweights, which flew ‘over’ the 49. The number for the Championship Game opened 53 at Circa and 51.5 at the SuperBook, and settled somewhere at 52.5 on most oddsboards after the first few days of wagering. The reason for the shift from December? As good as these defenses are, especially Georgia’s, the offenses may be too prolific to contain.

Big Bet On ‘Bama

Bettors have already started to fire away on Georgia-Alabama title tilt, including this six-figure play on the Alabama moneyline at +125 odds. https://twitter.com/SuperBookSports/status/1477132268149751810
