Legislation was introduced Wednesday to bring mobile sports betting to Kansas.
House Bill 2740, which does not have a primary sponsor listed on the Kansas Legislature website, would allow for up to “three interactive sports wagering platforms” to be run by the state lottery.
HB 2740 would legalize sports betting on professional and collegiate events.
Sports Betting Tax Revenue To Fund Gambling-Related Causes
Revenue raised by the state from sports betting shall be directed toward a newly-established white-collar fund to help the state investigate fraud or other crimes related to gambling, per the legislation. Annually the state would be directed to transfer $100,000 to combat problem gambling issues within the state.
The bill has been referred to the Committee on Federal and State Affairs. A hearing has been set for Tuesday, March 22. The legislature is about midway through the 2022 session. Previous attempts to bring sports betting to Kansas have failed.
If the legislation is passed, it would require sports betting to be up and running no later than Jan. 1, 2023.
