Total handle for online sports wagers was $1.96 billion in April, setting a new high for 2024 in New York. Revenue was a whopping $183.8 million.
As a result of the epic sports betting month of April, New York received roughly $93.7 million in tax revenue allocated for public education, with $6 million of that going to problem gambling education and treatment, and $5 million to youth sports activities and education grants.
The total handle was a 22% increase from April of 2023, and a 6.4% increase from March.
FanDuel NY Leads the Way in Total Handle
FanDuel led the way in total handle in NY sports betting in April at $780.5 million, continuing its dominance in the state. The second highest total handle was from DraftKings NY at $736.9 million, followed by Caesars at $158.8 million, and BetMGM at $130.1 million.
Undoubtedly, March Madness games helped push the total handle in April to a high for the year. The New York Knicks also played five playoff games in the month, and the Yankees and Mets were also on the field. In addition, both the Islanders and Rangers competed in the Stanley Cup Playoffs in April.
New York has now totaled approximately $7.54 billion in total handle (wagers accepted for sports betting online) in 2024. April 2024 represents one of the five highest total handle figures in one month for NY since it launched legal online sports betting in Jan. 2022.
Gross gaming revenue was up 32% compared to the same month in 2023, and came in at 20.8% higher than in March of 2024.

These operators pay a 51% tax rate on their GGR to the state.
