With the onset of the new fiscal year for most sports betting operators, there’s been a noticeable trend toward restructuring leadership within the industry. This shift is evident in PointsBet’s recent announcement of Daniel Lucas as their new Chief Technology Officer (CTO).
Lucas’ extensive experience in the gaming industry, gained from his tenure at Flutter Entertainment, positions him as a valuable asset to PointsBet. During his time at Flutter Entertainment, he oversaw prominent brands such as FanDuel, Betfair, Paddy Power, Sky Bet, and PokerStars. Notably, he served as the Head of Data Solutions and Head of Trading Technology at Sportsbet from 2023 to 2019. His wealth of expertise and demonstrated success make him an invaluable addition to PointsBet’s executive team.
Sam Swanell, Chief Executive Officer of the PointsBet Group, emphasized that Lucas’ background in trading operations and advanced analytics will be particularly advantageous for PointsBet’s endeavors in Canada and Australia.
“We are very pleased that a Senior Executive of Dan’s quality and experience is joining PointsBet. Dan’s understanding of complex platform and trading operations, in particular algorithmic trading, risk and advanced analytics together with his strong people leadership skills, are valuable assets to PointsBet’s Australian and Canadian operations, as we continue to invest in our market leading live betting and multi capability through Odds Factory.”

Commencement of New Role Scheduled for September
Lucas will continue to hold his current position until Sept. 1st, at which point he will officially begin his new role. This transitional period allows him ample time to make preparations for his move from the United Kingdom to Melbourne.
In a recent press release, he expressed his delight about joining a company that is at the forefront of technology and innovation, areas in which he possesses a wealth of expertise and experience.
“I am super excited about the opportunity to join a technology and product led company like PointsBet. They continue to invest in their platforms and there are exciting growth opportunities ahead,” Lucas said.
Daniel is stepping into the role previously held by Jerry Bowskill, who has decided to resign following the acquisition of PointsBet’s US section by Fanatics Betting and Gaming. Bowskill had been serving as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) since 2022 and had made significant contributions to PointsBet during his tenure. Before joining PointsBet, he had also worked with Capital International Group and The Stars Group.
During a farewell address to the departing Chief CTO, Swanell took the opportunity to express his gratitude to Bowskill for his outstanding contributions to PointsBet’s US venture and wished him well in future endeavors.
“Jerry Bowskill has made an outstanding contribution to PointsBet over his tenure leading our global technology organization. He has been an integral part of the group executive leadership team, and his experience and expertise have proven invaluable as we have planned for and executed the transition of our United States business to Fanatics. I would like to thank Jerry for all he has done for PointsBet and wish him all the best in his future endeavors,” Swanell concluded.
