The Powerball Jackpot prize has jumped to $950 million following Wednesday’s draw. It marks the 39th consecutive rollover since the last winning ticket was claimed on May 31, 2025. With its estimated value of $950 million, the prize now stands as the sixth-largest in the game’s history.
If Saturday’s draw yields a winning ticket, the player can now walk away with a lump sum payment of $428.9 million before taxes. Whether a new winner emerges remains uncertain, but Saturday’s draw has become the largest advertised jackpot in over a year.
Breaking Down Wednesday’s $815 Million Jackpot
Before climbing to a $950 million grand prize, the Powerball jackpot was worth an estimated $815 million as of Wednesday, August 29. At that point, it ranked as the seventh-largest jackpot in the game’s history. But with no winning ticket on Wednesday, the $768.4 million prize claimed in Wisconsin on March 27, 2019, still holds the spot as the seventh-largest payout ever awarded. However, that might change if a winner emerges on Saturday.
Wednesday’s draw produced the six unmatched numbers: white balls 9, 12, 22, 41, and 61, and the red Powerball 25. The Power Play® multiplier for that draw was 4.
Although the grand prize went unclaimed, Wednesday’s draw still produced winners. Six players won prizes worth $1 million or more after matching all five white balls. The $1 million winning tickets were purchased in Virginia, New York, and Arizona.
Three tickets in Ohio, Mississippi, and Virginia secured $2 million wins after adding the Power Play option for an additional $1. Forty tickets got $50,000 prizes, while ten players won $200,000 cash prizes. A player from South Dakota won $500,000 for matching all five black balls in the Double Play® drawing.
Powerball’s Most Historic Jackpot Payouts
Should a winner emerge on Saturday night, it would be the first time that the grand jackpot prize was awarded around the $900 million mark. As it stands, this jackpot is the sixth-largest grand prize in history. However, it remains unclaimed and does not yet rank among the most celebrated Powerball payouts. States That Produced the Largest Powerball Winners
Edwin Castro from California is the record holder for the highest prize won in Powerball history. He got his ticket for the $2 billion grand prize at Joe’s Service Centre in Altadena, California. Edwin opted for a lump sum payment of $997.6 million before taxes.
Interestingly, two sole winners of over $1 billion have also emerged from California. Theodorus Struyck purchased his ticket at Midway Market & Liquor located at 6032 Frazier Mountain Park Road in Frazier Park. He won $1.765 billion on October 11, 2023. The winning ticket for the $1.08 billion grand prize (drawn on July 19, 2023) was purchased at Las Palmitas Mini Market in Los Angeles.
Aside from California, Oregon is the only U.S. state to produce a single $1 billion jackpot winner. The prize, worth $1.326 billion, was claimed on April 6, 2024. The win was a first of its kind for a resident of the state. States like Michigan, Wisconsin, Massachusetts, Washington, and Maryland also rank among the top ten highest winners between 2019 and 2024.
For the highest number of wins by state, Indiana leads with 39 Powerball jackpot winners. Missouri is second with 31 winners, while Minnesota and Pennsylvania have recorded 22 and 20 winners, respectively. Despite their recent success, California has only produced 17 winners.
What Saturday’s $950 Million Jackpot Could Bring
Saturday night roll will be the 39th consecutive draw since the Powerball Jackpot was last won on May 31. A winning ticket for the six balls will see the winner choose to make one of two decisions.
The winner has the option to claim a lump-sum cash payment of about $428.9 million before taxes or choose the annuitized prize valued at $815 million. Under the annuity plan, the winner receives an initial payment followed by 29 annual installments, each increasing by 5 percent. Like the lump-sum payout, this option is also subject to taxation.
If no winner emerges for the grand prize, the jackpot will roll over and grow in value ahead of the next draw on Monday. If that occurs, the prize is projected to exceed $1 billion, marking only the sixth time in Powerball history that it has reached such a milestone, and shadowing the pot offered by Jackpot’s Winnerverse.
