Prediction markets at Kalshi and DraftKings are brimming with an eclectic mix of contracts this week, ranging from extraterrestrial life and Department of Homeland Security funding to the NBA championship and the 2028 presidential race.
Will the U.S. confirm aliens exist before 2027?
A combination of events has sparked new contracts regarding whether the U.S. will confirm the existence of alien life. President Donald Trump recently announced he will release previously sealed federal files related to “anomalies” that may or may not be explained by extraterrestrial activity.
However, prediction markets remain skeptical. There is currently an 79.8% chance the U.S. will not confirm the existence of aliens, while only 19.2% of contracts suggest a confirmation will occur before the new year.
Men’s college basketball champion
Following No. 1 seed Florida’s loss to the Iowa Hawkeyes on Sunday, three top seeds remain in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament: Arizona, Michigan, and Duke.
The markets have these three teams within two percentage points of one another. Arizona holds a 21% chance of taking home the title, while Michigan wavers between 20% and 21%. Duke is a close third at 19%.
When will the DHS be funded?
Tensions are high at American airports as a freeze on Department of Homeland Security funding has led to massive lines due to staffing cuts at security checkpoints.
The funding shutdown reached its 38th day on Monday with no immediate resolution in sight. Nevertheless, Kalshi markets remain optimistic that funding will be restored before April 1, placing those odds at 65%. Conversely, markets suggest there is only a 24% chance that funding will resume by Monday.
OKC Thunder favored to repeat NBA champion
Over at DraftKings, contract makers are bullish on the Oklahoma City Thunder repeating as NBA champions. This follows their 2025 Game 7 victory over the Indiana Pacers. As of Monday, the Thunder were riding a 12-game winning streak.
A significant gap exists between the Thunder and the runner-up favorite, the San Antonio Spurs. While the Boston Celtics trail the Detroit Pistons by five games for the Eastern Conference lead, contract makers still give the Celtics the third-best odds to win the title.
2028 U.S. presidential election
Vice President J.D. Vance is the early favorite to win the 2028 presidential election, according to DraftKings. However, Vance’s lead over the likely Democratic nominee, California Gov. Gavin Newsom, remains narrow. Vance’s odds currently sit at +400, while Newsom is at +456. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is a distant third at +669.
