The 2024 World Series odds continue to favor the Los Angeles Dodgers, who signed Japanese pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto following the headline-grabbing free agent signing of Shohei Ohtani.

The Atlanta Braves, winners of 100+ games in each of the last two seasons, and winners of six straight division titles, are second behind LA to win the next World Series.

The fates of four Scott Boras clients may decide how the World Series odds shake out during Spring Training: NL Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell, starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery, slugging outfielder Cody Bellinger, and run-producing third baseman Matt Chapman are all waiting for new contracts as free agents. All are represented by super baseball agent Boras.

2024 World Series Best Bets

Los Angeles Dodgers ()

On paper, the Dodgers’ rotation is formidable:

  • Yoshinobu Yamamoto
  • Tyler Glasnow
  • Bobby Miller
  • Walker Buehler
  • James Paxton or Emmet Sheehan

But there remain questions about Buehler, who is coming off shoulder surgery. Dustin May is also lurking in the background, on pace to potentially return to the mound in August following yet another Tommy John procedure in 2023. Veteran Clayton Kershaw is still on the roster.

Yamamoto is a three-time Pacific League Most Valuable Player in Japan, and his presence shores up the LA starting rotation. Still, the Dodgers have high expectations to return to the World Series for the first time since 2020. To do that, they will need healthy arms and elbows.

Buehler is a two-time All-Star but hasn’t pitched in a big league game since June of 2022. How he returns from shoulder surgery will decide a lot about the Dodgers’ chances to win the pennant in 2024.

Atlanta Braves ()

The Braves will boast many MVP candidates in their batting order: Ronald Acuña Jr., Matt Olson, and Austin Riley come to mind immediately. But two key players to watch are shortstop Orlando Arcia and left fielder Jarred Kelenic, the latter coming over from the American League. Kelenic has 32 homers through 252 MLB games, and he barrels up a lot of pitches. In Atlanta’s small park, we could see “The Waukesha Wallop” smack 25+ taters. If Kelenic has success on his new team, it will serve to lengthen the Braves’ lineup. That spells B-A-D N-E-W-S for opponents.

We like Arcia to have a career season at the age of 29 in 2024. There’s no reason Arcia can’t increase his extra-base output, with 25+ homers not out of the question. He’s thick and muscled and has a quick bat. Yes, he’ll strike out some, but Arcia will get fastballs to hit in this deep lineup.

Last season, Atlanta led the NL with 947 runs scored. Given a healthy season, the Braves’ lineup could approach 1,000 runs scored. That would make it much easier to recapture the pennant.

Houston Astros ()

On Jan. 22, the Astros announced the signing of free agent closer Josh Hader for five years at the cost of a reported $95 million. That’s a lot of coin for a one-inning pitcher, but Hader has the credentials to be considered baseball’s best backend reliever.

From 2019 to 2023, his 153 saves are the most in baseball. Hader is a tall, gangly flamethrower with two devastating pitches: his sinker, which he throws as hard as 96 miles per hour, and a slider that he uses about 25% of the time, and tops out at 86 mph.

With lefty Hader in tow, the ‘Stros now have the best LH/RH bullpen duo in MLB. His tossing partner is Ryan Pressly, who has 90 saves to his credit the last three seasons. Houston may not know which reliever will get out No. 27, but having two great options is a nice problem to have.

Other than Hader, the Astros’ biggest addition this Hot Stove Season may be Joe Espada, who takes over the seat in the manager’s office. Espada will have the luxury of writing names like Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman, Jeremy Pena, Kyle Tucker, and Yordan Alvarez on his lineup card. For that reason, Houston will be a threat to win a fourth consecutive AL West title.

41-year Justin Verlander has another year on his contract, and look for him to be a big part of the rotation, eating innings. Framber Valdez, Cristian Javier, Joe Espada, and young Verlander look-a-like Hunter Brown round out a good rotation. The Orange Dynasty is far from over.

Philadelphia Phillies ()

The Philadelphia Phillies have been to the final four (NLCS round) the last two seasons. It’s easy to see why: they have a veteran, dangerous lineup.

Two-time MVP Bryce Harper, Trea Turner, JT Realmuto, Kyle Schwarber, and Nick Castellanos are secured through at least 2025, and each of those players can mash the baseball.

Twin aces Aaron Nola and Zack Wheeler return to give the top of the rotation weight. Expect Phantastic things from the Phils.

New York Yankees ()

Outfielder Juan Soto and pitcher Marcus Stroman were the big prizes for the Yanks in the offseason. Still, this is not Big George’s Yankees. If Old Man Steinbrenner were still walking this planet, would he have allowed Shohei Ohtani to sign with the Dodgers? Not likely.

Soto is the best pure hitter the Yanks have had since Gary Sheffield. Unlike Aaron Judge and the constantly injured Giancarlo Stanton, Soto will be in the lineup day after day. He’s missed only 19 games in the last three seasons, and his 30 HR and 137 walks per season since 2021 go well with his eye-popping .425 on-base percentage.

2024 World Series Value Picks

Texas Rangers ()

Let’s face it, the Rangers have not done enough to make them favorites to do the unthinkable: win a second straight title. No team has won back-to-back World Series since the Yankees of 2000, which means technically it hasn’t happened since the last millenium.

If you think the Rangers can win the crown again, you can get decent futures odds on them. We are leery of that aging, oft-injured pitching staff, however. With the hated Astros signing Josh Hader, that only seems to distance Texas from Houston in the competitive AL West division.

Toronto Blue Jays ()

The best addition for the Jays would be a return to dominance by pitcher Alek Manoah, who got so sideways in 2023 that he was sent to the minors briefly. Manoah is a former All-Star who can overpower and finesse, similar to what we used to see from CC Sabathia. If he can return to his 2022 level, when he was third in Cy Young voting, Manoah can lead the Jays into the postseason.

Baltimore Orioles ()

The surprise team of 2023 has pretty good odds for 2024 as well. The young, talented roster came out of nowhere to post a 101-win season to win the rugged AL East. The playoff stay was a short one, but Gunnar Henderson, Adley Rutschman, Grayson Rodriguez, and Jordan Westburg are a young core to build on. With a little spending, the Orioles could fly up the odds board.

World Series Longshot Bets

Arizona Diamondbacks ()

Call the ’23 Diamondbacks a fluke if you want. Call them a one-year aberration. But, this is a team that can surprise the National League again. If you think so too, you can find odds in excess of +1700 for Arizona to win the pennant, and in the neighborhood of +4000 to win the Fall Classic.

The Snakes have deep and talented pitching and it got much better with the acquisition via free agency of southpaw Eduardo Rodriguez. The lefty will immediately slot in as the team’s ace. The bullpen is wicked, too.

You may not know many of the position players who wear a D-Backs uniform, but you will learn their names if they get into the MLB postseason tournament this fall. And you could win oodles of money if you bet on them to win the flag, and they find a way to do it… again.

Seattle Mariners ()

The Mariners are one of only five franchises without a World Series title. Oddsmakers give them a reasonable chance to end that drought in 2024. The presence of Texas and Houston in the AL West keeps Seattle as a longshot for now. They won 88 games in 2023 but lost six of 10 at the end to miss the playoffs.

Tampa Bay Rays ()

The Rays found a way to stay ahead of the big-budget Yankees and Red Sox, but the Orioles make the AL East even tougher in 2024. Star SS Wander Franco is a big question mark as the league investigates some concerning relationships away from the ballpark. Brandon Lowe and Yandy Diaz return for a team that won 99 games in 2023.

Sportsbooks post MLB futures odds for the World Series champion year-round. It’s worth a look even if snow is on the ground.

The Texas Rangers won their first World Series title in 2023, capping off a brilliant 4-1 series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Of course, the logical question is, can they pull off a repeat?

How To Bet on World Series Odds 2024

Pick a Sportsbook

The World Series odds board makes it easy to see where the most favorable odds are. Find the best number for the MLB team or teams you have in mind.

Sign up With a Welcome Offer

The links on this page make it easy to find the best welcome offers available.

Any sportsbooks you choose here will ask for proof of your identity (21+) and location. It’s an important and fairly easy part of the process.

You must be located within a state that legally offers the online sportsbook of your choice in order to bet. If the geolocation technology detects that you’re outside of state limits, you’ll be blocked from betting until you’re within a legal jurisdiction.

Make Your First Deposit

Once you’ve registered for a new account with a top MLB betting site, navigate to the “Cashier” or “Add Funds” tab at your chosen sportsbook to make your first deposit.

The most reliable deposit methods include PayPal and the Play+ Prepaid card. Other methods include ACH/eCheck and credit/debit cards.

Place Bets

Placing your first bet requires clicking on the line of your choice. Online sportsbooks offer a wide array of ways to bet, so be sure to check out the Gaming Today Sports Betting 101 page for details on all kinds of sports bets.

Once you’ve clicked on a bet you wish to make, the wager appears on your bet slip. Input the amount you want to wager in the bet slip and the sportsbook will display the potential payout.

Make sure your first bet meets the terms and conditions of the sportsbook’s first bet offer.

When you’re ready to send the bet through to the sportsbook, click “Confirm” (or something similar), and your bet is in the books.

Cash Out

In general, the sportsbook only allows you to cash out using a method you’ve previously used to deposit.

PayPal, Play+, and ACH/eCheck all offer rapid turnaround on withdrawals. You can also visit the land-based casino partner of an online sportsbook (if the sportsbook partners with a retail casino) and make deposits and withdrawals at the cashier cage.

How World Series Odds Are Calculated

US sportsbooks use American odds notation to display potential payouts on all bets. American odds lines are denoted by a “+” or “-“ in front of the odds.

For World Series futures odds, the lines are virtually always “+” American odds. Here’s what the 2024 World Series futures odds look like today:

Winning a Wager at +450 Odds

Let’s calculate a hypothetical World Series futures bet at +450 odds. To calculate “+” American odds bets, you must divide the odds (+450) by 100 and multiply that by the amount wagered.

For example, a $50 bet at +450 odds would calculate as (450/100)*$50, which equates to $225. A $50 winning bet at +450 odds would return $275 to the bettor ($225 profit plus the original $50 bet).

Losing a Wager at +450 Odds

Losing bets simply result in losing the amount wagered in full. A $50 bet at +450 odds would return $0 if the team fails to win the World Series.

The Texas Rangers (defending champions) didn’t start the season as betting favorites to win the World Series, but the futures odds changed significantly as the season progressed.

World Series Line Movement

Injuries, trades, and unexpected successes — or missteps — are all factors that alter futures odds for the baseball championship.

If you think a team doesn’t have what it takes to win it all, you can also bet on MLB futures to win the division, league, or even just make the playoffs.

Sportsbooks will sometimes offer betting markets like “Mets to make the playoffs? Yes/No.” In one example from 2023, the Mets’ odds were:

  • Yes: -235
  • No: +190

At -235, you needed to risk $235 to win $100 on a bet for the Mets to make the playoffs. The team slumped as the summer progressed, so the $235 bet didn’t cash. A correct $100 bet on the Mets to miss the playoffs at +190 meant your wager yielded $190.

You don’t have to bet in $100 amounts, of course. Gaming Today’s moneyline calculator can help you determine your potential winnings based on any amount you choose.

For instant American odds calculations, check out the Gaming Today Moneyline Calculator.

Offseason World Series Betting

The World Series and MLB MVP odds take different factors into account during the offseason:

  • How teams performed during the previous season.
  • The hot stove — including the latest player transactions and trades during the winter meetings.
  • Any injuries that may spill over into the upcoming season.
  • Coaching and managerial changes.
  • Strength of schedule for the upcoming campaign.

MLB World Series Odds and Ends

Here, we answer common questions surrounding MLB futures to ensure you understand your options.

What is a World Series Futures Bet?

Futures bets allow you to wager on an event that incorporates a period longer than a single game. A World Series futures bet, for example, offers the chance to bet on the MLB champion at any time throughout the year.

No matter how far away the next World Series is, legal online sportsbooks offer futures odds. As soon as the 2023 World Series ended, the books installed futures lines on the 2024 World Series.

Other examples of MLB futures markets include betting on player awards, division winners, and statistical leaders.

Click here to visit the Gaming Today Futures Odds Calculator

What Is A World Series Prop Bet?

A prop bet wagers on events other than the winner or loser of a game. Some prop bets involve on-field events, while others allow you to wager on events that don’t even happen during the World Series.

Examples of on-field prop bets include wagering on whether a World Series game will go to extra innings.

Off-field prop bets, aka exotic props, could involve wagering on the length of the National Anthem before a game, or on the first beer brand to get a commercial on the air during a game. That can vary from state to state. Some jurisdictions don’t allow so-called “exotic bets” on off-the-field happenings.

Sportsbooks perform the research for you, so don’t worry. If the bet isn’t an option, you simply won’t see it when you log in from your specific location.

World Series Betting Strategies

For the World Series or any sporting event, favored teams generally pull more betting interest than underdogs. Sportsbooks inherently place better payout odds on the underdog.

A typical moneyline bet on the 2023 World Series entering Game 1 looked like this:

TeamOdds To Win Game 1 of 2023 World Series
Texas Rangers-159
Arizona Diamondbacks+128

Sharp bettors convert moneyline odds to implied probability, using a tool like the Gaming Today Implied Probability Calculator.

Inserting the Texas Rangers (-159) moneyline odds into the calculator yields a 61.39% implied probability of winning. If you thought the Rangers had better than a 61.39% chance of beating the Diamondbacks in the World Series, the (+128) line offered value.

Fading the Public

Another common betting strategy involves “fading the public,” or wagering against whatever most of the betting public is doing. This strategy essentially bets on the sportsbook’s long-term ability to win money, which wouldn’t happen if large sections of the public could always accurately place winning bets.

Middling, another possible betting approach, involves betting on one side of the moneyline, then hoping for the line to move enough to place a profitable wager on the other side of the bet.

For example, a bettor attempting to use the middling strategy could place a bet on Arizona (+128), then hope that the line on the Rangers moves to (-150) or better. Placing a (+128) bet on the Diamondbacks and a (-150) on the Rangers would yield a profit no matter who won the World Series game.

Bet Tracking

The practice of tabulating your betting history can be a useful approach to ensure you’re wagering within your means. Advanced bet tracking for sports betting is essential because numbers are king. Properly Monitoring and tracking your bets makes you gambling royalty. Sports gamblers, novices, and veterans alike are guaranteed to improve their game with this simple hack.

World Series Odds FAQ

Who is favored to win the World Series?

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves are the National League and overall favorites to win the World Series 2024. The top American League contenders are the New York Yankees and defending pennant winners, the Houston Astros.

Can you bet on the World Series in 2024?

Yes. About two-thirds of the 50 US states allow sports betting in some form, and World Series betting is a popular option.

Some of the biggest online sports betting markets include New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Illinois, Nevada, Indiana, Virginia, Tennessee, and Colorado. States like New York, Ohio, Maryland, and Massachusetts are among the more recent additions to the legal sports betting industry in the US.

Who has the most World Series wins?

The New York Yankees have 27 World Series championships, the most in the history of Major League Baseball. The St. Louis Cardinals (11),  Boston Red Sox (9), and Oakland Athletics (9) are next in line.

The Texas Rangers won the 2023 World Series, their first title.

Where can I bet on the World Series online?

Top choices for World Series betting include BetRivers, FanDuel Sportsbook, BetMGM, PointsBet, and Caesars via their mobile betting apps or sportsbook websites.

Be sure to check out the best sports betting apps for comprehensive reviews of each sportsbook and the states in which each operates.

How old do I need to be to bet on the World Series?

21 or older. With a couple of exceptions, the standard minimum betting age at legal online sportsbooks is 21 throughout the United States.

Is it safe to wager on the World Series online?

Yes, as long as you’re betting at a state-regulated, legal sportsbook.

Legal online sportsbooks operate under the oversight of state-level government gaming regulatory agencies. Placing a bet at a legal online sportsbook offers the same level of safety as wagering at the sportsbook of a land-based casino.

Do online sportsbooks offer live betting during the World Series?

Yes. Live betting (also known as in-play or real-time betting) allows you to wager on the game as it’s in progress.

Live betting lines rapidly change throughout the game, based on what’s happening on the field. Live betting is an online sportsbook specialty, available in some form at all of the top-rated mobile sportsbooks.

Can you make prop bets on the World Series?

Yes, there are hundreds of prop bets available leading up to, and throughout, the World Series. Prop bets could include wagering on whether a particular player will hit a home run, how many innings a starting pitcher will last, and many other on-field props.

Can I bet on events happening off the field?

Yes, but only in some cases. Off-field prop bets — also called exotic prop bets — can include all kinds of events that have nothing to do with what happens in a World Series game.

Off-field prop bets might involve betting on the length of the National Anthem, or whether a team’s last World Series win is mentioned during the broadcast.

Sportsbooks customize their betting options based on each state’s rules and regulations. An exotic bet at FanDuel Indiana might not be available at FanDuel Virginia, for example.

When is the 2024 World Series?

Expect the 2024 MLB postseason to start on Oct. 1, 2024.

The 2024 World Series will begin with Game 1 in late October. Game 7 of the 2024 World Series would likely be played Nov. 2, but we’ll get more postseason details from MLB in August 2024.
