World Series Odds 2024: Dodgers Favored to Win Next MLB Fall Classic

It was about four decades ago that the Baltimore Orioles and Philadelphia Phillies met in the World Series. It’s possible that matchup could happen this fall, given the current play of both teams.

The Phillies (baseball’s best record through May 20) are making the biggest move in 2024 World Series odds as of late, and the O’s are leading the AL East.

While the star-studded Los Angeles Dodgers are the favorites according to the top MLB sportsbooks, Philadelphia’s surge since mid-April has pushed them into the upper strata of MLB teams with odds to win the Fall Classic. The AL Central leaders, the Cleveland Guardians, are also seeing their World Series odds shrink.

The Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees, and Texas Rangers are in top slots too, based on odds from baseball betting apps. Oddsmakers also still have s soft spot for the Houston Astros, who are starting to creep up the AL West standings.

Your favorite MLB sportsbook is the place to submit your baseball futures bet. On this page, we examine the best bets and also discuss longshot World Series possibilities.

2024 World Series Best Bets

Los Angeles Dodgers ()

The Dodgers are pulling away from the pack in the NL West. They lead by eight games through May 20, and with Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts leading the way, they seem unstoppable.

Why the Dodgers CAN Win the World Series: The Dodgers have the best baseball player in the world, but you could pick two of their players and argue for that title: Mookie Betts or Shohei Ohtani. In a few months, they’ll get Clayton Kershaw back too.

Atlanta Braves ()

Ronald Acuña Jr. is still scuffling, but the Braves are so talented they are still on a 100-win pace. Once the 2023 NL MVP gets hot, watch out. The Braves are a solid choice to win the Fall Classic, and their odds should be watched for baseball betting opportunities.

Why the Braves CAN Win the World Series: A pair of veterans, Travis d’Arnaud and Marcell Ozuna are having revitalized seasons. If the Braves’ lineup can count on those two for power, the sky is the limit. Matt Olson isn’t even hitting yet, but when he does, watch out.

Philadelphia Phillies ()

Rumble, rumble, rumble: the Phillies are grinding their way to the best record in MLB behind a powerhouse offense and the NL’s second-best pitching staff. As they do, MLB sports betting apps are lowering their odds to win the 2024 World Series.

Bryce Harper is lowkey a great MVP candidate for your awards futures bet. Harper is on pace for about 135 RBI and 35 HR. If Philly wins 105+ games, he will get loads of support to win his third MVP.

Why the Phillies CAN Win the World Series: The Phils boast a great bullpen, and the staff is fronted by a pair of aces: Aaron Nola and Zack Wheeler. Only the Dodgers have a lower ERA.

Baltimore Orioles ()

The O’s are on pace to hit 260+ home runs and rank first in runs scored. It’s not like they are a one-dimensional team: Baltimore is fourth in the AL in ERA, too.

Why the Orioles CAN Win the 2024 World Series: The lineup is freakishly deep: as of May 20, Baltimore has five players with an OPS+ of 140 or higher. They have eight hitters on pace to record 25+ home runs. BOOM!

Houston Astros ()

The Astros are creeping up the AL West standings. They rest only five games back of Seattle as of May 20. That’s despite a rash of injuries to the pitching staff, and slow starts for Alex Bregman and Yordan Alvarez. We still think Houston wins the AL West.

Why the Astros CAN Win the World Series: The Astros have something that can’t be quantified: experience. That’s seven straight years in MLB’s Final Four.

New York Yankees ()

Everything seems rosy for the Yankees, with a No. 1 pitching staff (according to ERA), and the spectacular arrival of Juan Soto as this generation’s Reggie Jackson in the Bronx. This is a great pick to win it all, which the franchise hasn’t done since 2009.

Why the Yankees CAN Win the World Series: At least it looks like they won’t have to play the Astros in the playoffs…

2024 World Series Value Picks

Cleveland Guardians ()

Cleveland ranks in the top five in baseball in runs scored AND fewest runs allowed. The bullpen is among the best in the game, ranking first in bullpen ERA in the AL, fourth in OPS+ against, and second in K/BB ratio.

Texas Rangers ()

If you think the Rangers can win the crown again, you can get decent World Series futures odds on them. Once the offense gets humming, the Rangers will score oodles of runs. The worry is the overstressed bullpen. Starters and former Cy Young winners Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer will reportedly join the team in time for or even before the All-Star break. Those two must produce if Texas has any chance to win it all, again.

World Series Longshot Bets

Milwaukee Brewers ()

If Milwaukee is going to win a World Series this season, it will need to find better production from their bullpen, and identify more than two starting pitchers they can depend on. Offensively, the Brewers are dialed into their franchise DNA: predicated on the home run. Bernie Brewer has been taking lots of rides into the suds in 2024.

Chicago Cubs ()

The Cubbies benefit from a weak division. It may take only 90 wins to get into the dance out of the NL Central. The offense and pitching (no. 4 by ERA) are both ranked at least top seven in the league, so the Cubs have the balance to grab a playoff spot.

Arizona Diamondbacks ()

Call the ’23 Diamondbacks a fluke if you want. Call them a one-year aberration. But, this is a team that can surprise the National League again. If you think so too, you can find odds in the neighborhood of +4500 for Arizona to win the Fall Classic.

Sportsbooks post MLB futures odds for the World Series champion year-round. It’s worth a look even if snow is on the ground.

The Texas Rangers won their first World Series title in 2023, capping off a brilliant 4-1 series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Of course, the logical question is, can they pull off a repeat?

How To Bet on World Series Odds 2024

Pick a Sportsbook

The World Series odds board makes it easy to see where the most favorable odds are. Find the best number for the MLB team or teams you have in mind.

Sign up With a Welcome Offer

The links on this page make it easy to find the best welcome offers available.

Any sportsbooks you choose here will ask for proof of your identity (21+) and location. It’s an important and fairly easy part of the process.

You must be located within a state that legally offers the online sportsbook of your choice in order to bet. If the geolocation technology detects that you’re outside of state limits, you’ll be blocked from betting until you’re within a legal jurisdiction.

Make Your First Deposit

Once you’ve registered for a new account with a top MLB betting site, navigate to the “Cashier” or “Add Funds” tab at your chosen sportsbook to make your first deposit.

The most reliable deposit methods include PayPal and the Play+ Prepaid card. Other methods include ACH/eCheck and credit/debit cards.

Place Bets

Placing your first bet requires clicking on the line of your choice. Online sportsbooks offer a wide array of ways to bet, so be sure to check out the Gaming Today Sports Betting 101 page for details on all kinds of sports bets.

Once you’ve clicked on a bet you wish to make, the wager appears on your bet slip. Input the amount you want to wager in the bet slip and the sportsbook will display the potential payout.

Make sure your first bet meets the terms and conditions of the sportsbook’s first bet offer.

When you’re ready to send the bet through to the sportsbook, click “Confirm” (or something similar), and your bet is in the books.

Cash Out

In general, the sportsbook only allows you to cash out using a method you’ve previously used to deposit.

PayPal, Play+, and ACH/eCheck all offer rapid turnaround on withdrawals. You can also visit the land-based casino partner of an online sportsbook (if the sportsbook partners with a retail casino) and make deposits and withdrawals at the cashier cage.

How World Series Odds Are Calculated

US sportsbooks use American odds notation to display potential payouts on all bets. American odds lines are denoted by a “+” or “-“ in front of the odds.

For World Series futures odds, the lines are virtually always “+” American odds. Here’s what the 2024 World Series futures odds look like today:

Winning a Wager at +450 Odds

Let’s calculate a hypothetical World Series futures bet at +450 odds. To calculate “+” American odds bets, you must divide the odds (+450) by 100 and multiply that by the amount wagered.

For example, a $50 bet at +450 odds would calculate as (450/100)*$50, which equates to $225. A $50 winning bet at +450 odds would return $275 to the bettor ($225 profit plus the original $50 bet).

Losing a Wager at +450 Odds

Losing bets simply result in losing the amount wagered in full. A $50 bet at +450 odds would return $0 if the team fails to win the World Series.

The Texas Rangers (defending champions) didn’t start the season as betting favorites to win the World Series, but the futures odds changed significantly as the season progressed.

World Series Line Movement

Injuries, trades, and unexpected successes — or missteps — are all factors that alter futures odds for the baseball championship.

If you think a team doesn’t have what it takes to win it all, you can also bet on MLB futures to win the division, league, or even just make the playoffs.

Sportsbooks will sometimes offer betting markets like “Mets to make the playoffs? Yes/No.” In one example from 2023, the Mets’ odds were:

  • Yes: -235
  • No: +190

At -235, you needed to risk $235 to win $100 on a bet for the Mets to make the playoffs. The team slumped as the summer progressed, so the $235 bet didn’t cash. A correct $100 bet on the Mets to miss the playoffs at +190 meant your wager yielded $190.

You don’t have to bet in $100 amounts, of course. Gaming Today’s moneyline calculator can help you determine your potential winnings based on any amount you choose.

For instant American odds calculations, check out the Gaming Today Moneyline Calculator.

Offseason World Series Betting

The World Series and MLB MVP odds take different factors into account during the offseason:

  • How teams performed during the previous season.
  • The hot stove — including the latest player transactions and trades during the winter meetings.
  • Any injuries that may spill over into the upcoming season.
  • Coaching and managerial changes.
  • Strength of schedule for the upcoming campaign.

MLB World Series Odds and Ends

Here, we answer common questions surrounding MLB futures to ensure you understand your options.

What is a World Series Futures Bet?

Futures bets allow you to wager on an event that incorporates a period longer than a single game. A World Series futures bet, for example, offers the chance to bet on the MLB champion at any time throughout the year.

No matter how far away the next World Series is, legal online sportsbooks offer futures odds. As soon as the 2023 World Series ended, the books installed futures lines on the 2024 World Series.

Other examples of MLB futures markets include betting on player awards, division winners, and statistical leaders.

What Is A World Series Prop Bet?

A prop bet wagers on events other than the winner or loser of a game. Some prop bets involve on-field events, while others allow you to wager on events that don’t even happen during the World Series.

Examples of on-field prop bets include wagering on whether a World Series game will go to extra innings.

Off-field prop bets, aka exotic props, could involve wagering on the length of the National Anthem before a game, or on the first beer brand to get a commercial on the air during a game. That can vary from state to state. Some jurisdictions don’t allow so-called “exotic bets” on off-the-field happenings.

Sportsbooks perform the research for you, so don’t worry. If the bet isn’t an option, you simply won’t see it when you log in from your specific location.

World Series Betting Strategies

For the World Series or any sporting event, favored teams generally pull more betting interest than underdogs. Sportsbooks inherently place better payout odds on the underdog.

A typical moneyline bet on the 2023 World Series entering Game 1 looked like this:

TeamOdds To Win Game 1 of 2023 World Series
Texas Rangers-159
Arizona Diamondbacks+128

Sharp bettors convert moneyline odds to implied probability, using a tool like the Gaming Today Implied Probability Calculator.

Inserting the Texas Rangers (-159) moneyline odds into the calculator yields a 61.39% implied probability of winning. If you thought the Rangers had better than a 61.39% chance of beating the Diamondbacks in the World Series, the (+128) line offered value.

Fading the Public

Another common betting strategy involves “fading the public,” or wagering against whatever most of the betting public is doing. This strategy essentially bets on the sportsbook’s long-term ability to win money, which wouldn’t happen if large sections of the public could always accurately place winning bets.

Middling, another possible betting approach, involves betting on one side of the moneyline, then hoping for the line to move enough to place a profitable wager on the other side of the bet.

For example, a bettor attempting to use the middling strategy could place a bet on Arizona (+128), then hope that the line on the Rangers moves to (-150) or better. Placing a (+128) bet on the Diamondbacks and a (-150) on the Rangers would yield a profit no matter who won the World Series game.

Bet Tracking

The practice of tabulating your betting history can be a useful approach to ensure you’re wagering within your means. Advanced bet tracking for sports betting is essential because numbers are king. Properly Monitoring and tracking your bets makes you gambling royalty. Sports gamblers, novices, and veterans alike are guaranteed to improve their game with this simple hack.

World Series Odds FAQ

Who is favored to win the World Series?

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves are the National League and overall favorites to win the World Series 2024. The top American League contenders are the New York Yankees and the Baltimore Orioles.

Can you bet on the World Series in 2024?

Yes. About two-thirds of the 50 US states allow sports betting in some form, and World Series betting is a popular option.

Some of the biggest online sports betting markets include New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Illinois, Nevada, Indiana, Virginia, Tennessee and Colorado. States like New York, Ohio, Maryland, and Massachusetts are among the more recent additions to the legal sports betting industry in the US.

Who has the most World Series wins?

The New York Yankees have 27 World Series championships, the most in the history of Major League Baseball. The St. Louis Cardinals (11),  Boston Red Sox (9), and Oakland Athletics (9) are next in line.

The Texas Rangers won the 2023 World Series, their first title.

Where can I bet on the World Series online?

Top choices for World Series betting include BetRivers, FanDuel Sportsbook, BetMGM and Caesars via their mobile betting apps or sportsbook websites.

Be sure to check out the best sports betting apps for comprehensive reviews of each sportsbook and the states in which each operates.

How old do I need to be to bet on the World Series?

21 or older. With a couple of exceptions, the standard minimum betting age at legal online sportsbooks is 21 throughout the United States.

Is it safe to wager on the World Series online?

Yes, as long as you’re betting at a state-regulated, legal sportsbook.

Legal online sportsbooks operate under the oversight of state-level government gaming regulatory agencies. Placing a bet at a legal online sportsbook offers the same level of safety as wagering at the sportsbook of a land-based casino.

Do online sportsbooks offer live betting during the World Series?

Yes. Live betting (also known as in-play or real-time betting) allows you to wager on the game as it’s in progress.

Live betting lines rapidly change throughout the game, based on what’s happening on the field. Live betting is an online sportsbook specialty, available in some form at all of the top-rated mobile sportsbooks.

Can you make prop bets on the World Series?

Yes, there are hundreds of prop bets available leading up to, and throughout, the World Series. Prop bets could include wagering on whether a particular player will hit a home run, how many innings a starting pitcher will last, and many other on-field props.

Can I bet on events happening off the field?

Yes, but only in some cases. Off-field prop bets — also called exotic prop bets — can include all kinds of events that have nothing to do with what happens in a World Series game.

Off-field prop bets might involve betting on the length of the National Anthem, or whether a team’s last World Series win is mentioned during the broadcast.

Sportsbooks customize their betting options based on each state’s rules and regulations. An exotic bet at FanDuel Indiana might not be available at FanDuel Virginia, for example.

When is the 2024 World Series?

Expect the 2024 MLB postseason to start on Oct. 1, 2024.

The 2024 World Series will begin with Game 1 in late October. Game 7 of the 2024 World Series would likely be played Nov. 2, but we’ll get more postseason details from MLB in August 2024.
