Alberta currently has only one legal, locally regulated online casino, PlayAlberta.ca, which is operated by the provincial government. However, the province is getting ready to open up its online gambling market to private operators, adopting an open market model similar to Ontario’s.

Over a dozen international operators have already secured access to the market, including noteworthy brands like DraftKings, FanDuel, Caesars, and BetMGM. Indeed, players can’t wait until the launch date, considering the flurry of game and bonus offerings to be expected.

So, when will new Alberta online casinos launch? Here’s a quick guide with key dates to look out for and previews of what to expect.

The Current Online Gaming Situation

Alberta residents can already access online casino sites, but the legal options are restricted to only one platform: PlayAlberta.ca. The government has a monopoly on the online casino gaming and sports betting market, and PlayAlberta.ca is the only locally regulated, legal platform.

However, Alberta residents still have many other options outside the regulated market. Notably, playing at offshore casino sites isn’t exactly illegal under Canadian federal law. Offshore platforms exist in a legal grey area, and Canadians can register and play without legal obstacles.

Alberta Online Casinos Launch Day: July 13, 2026

July 13, 2026 is the official date of the launch of online casinos and sportsbooks in Alberta. The authorities are currently working on the final pre-launch phase before giving the greenlight to private operators.

This day has been about a year coming, since the iGaming Alberta Act (Bill 48) received the Royal Assent on May 15, 2025. The Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) opened registration for private operators shortly thereafter in January 2026, and the process is still ongoing.

Notably, over a dozen private operators have already registered and are all set to go live on the official launch date. However, the registration process is open-ended, and more casinos will continue launching over time.

Currently Registered Online Casinos

Over a dozen operators have already registered with the AGLC in preparation for the big day. Some of the most notable online casinos on the list include the following:

  • Caesars Palace Online Casino
  • FanDuel
  • BetMGM
  • DarftKings Sportsbook and Casino
  • Jackpot City
  • Stardust Casino
  • Spin Casino
  • Horseshoe Online Casino

Notably, some of these casinos have already opened pre-launch registration windows, letting players register before they go live. Interestingly, some Alberta residents may already have active accounts with one or more of the currently registered online casinos. This would be understandable, as offshore gambling has largely been the norm.

While there is some confusion about what will happen to such accounts, it is worth noting that such individuals could be required to register new accounts when those platforms finally become regulated.

Fostering Competition

Players in Alberta are right to be excited about the coming launch of online casinos. Creating an open market model where private operators compete will unlock a range of benefits for players.

For starters, players can expect lots of exciting welcome promotions, especially shortly before, during, and after the launch, as every operator tries to compete for new users. Besides welcome bonuses, many private operators also keep things lively by offering ongoing promotions and loyalty programs.

The private operators combined will also offer more casino games than PlayAlberta.ca ever could. Players can look forward to thousands of slots, extensive variations of table and card games, engaging live-dealer games, and all sorts of casual and specialty games.

Last but not least, regulation will make it safer to play casino games by applying various player protections, including a centralized self-exclusion system. Notably, regulated platforms also guarantee fair play.
