Gaming Edge’s TL;DR

  • VGW will shutter LuckyLand Slots for good on Sept. 14.
  • The sweepstakes casino operated for eight years.

Virtual Gaming Worlds is winding down LuckyLand Slots in North America after eight years.

Gold Coin sales stop immediately, gameplay ends on Aug. 24, and the platform will shut down – along with account redemptions – on Sept. 14.

VGW has confirmed the gradual closure of LuckyLand Slots across North America. The social casino platform has operated in 44 states, making the move a notable exit in the US sweepstakes casino and social gaming market.

Move comes on heels of CEO resignation

In a statement to players, a VGW spokesperson said:

“For the last eight years, LuckyLand Slots has been proud to be your go-to online social casino. We’ve loved sharing every milestone with you, and we’re grateful for the incredible community we’ve built together.”

VGW also operates Chumba Casino and Global Poker. LuckyLand Casino was a slots-only social gaming platform that debuted in 2018 and grew in popularity during the pandemic.

The development also comes amid leadership turnover at VGW. The company’s founder and longtime CEO, Laurence Escalante, resigned, and Senior Director Mats Johnson has been appointed acting CEO. Escalante reportedly resigned amid legal troubles.

VGW did not offer a reason for closing LuckyLand Slots.

Based on reporting by James Evenden for The U.S. Sun.
