The Missouri Gaming Commission has confirmed that 16 sports betting operators have applied for Missouri sports wagering licenses as of 3 p.m. today, MGC Public Relations Coordinator Elizabeth Hoffman told GamingToday.
The MGC confirmed that 14 suppliers have applied too (companies that provide services for sports betting operators).
Overall, the MGC has received more than 700 applications that it needs to work through.
“Our latest numbers indicate that the MGC has received a total of 734 license applications from sports wagering companies, including mobile, retail, and supplier license applications,” Hoffman said. “This number is increasing every hour.”
US sportsbook operators that want to participate in the state’s December 1 launch must be postmarked September 12 or earlier, Hoffman said.
Confirmed sportsbook applicants include big names
The MGC list of confirmed applicants includes two types of companies: sportsbooks and suppliers. Per Hoffman, those companies are:

When sports betting launches in December, bettors will have two options: mobile and in-person (“retail”). The mobile category is broken down into two subcategories: tethered and untethered.
Tethered licenses require applicants to partner with an existing Missouri casino or professional sports team. The state also offered two untethered licenses, which allow a sports betting operator to operate independently of a partnership with a Missouri entity.
The MGC announced in August that Circa and DraftKings earned the untethered licenses.

Missouri’s December 1 launch date has one major drawback: sportsbooks will miss out on an estimated $170 million in revenue they could’ve pulled in had the launch arrived before the start of the NFL betting season.
That being said, the Missouri sports betting market is poised to generate a total handle comparable to states such as Colorado and Indiana.
As for what’s next in the Show Me State’s regulatory roadmap, the MGC can award temporary licenses to operators as soon as Oct. 22. If a book earns a temporary license, users can make deposits starting Nov. 17.
