The 2024 Masters Tournament saw a whopping 50% increase in total wagers placed, according to BetMGM Sportsbook. The annual tournament, which saw Scottie Scheffler win his second green jacket, also experienced a sharp spike in betting interest for women.

“Women keep on betting with BetMGM, and the 2024 Masters Tournament was no different,” the leading sports betting operator said in an Insights email sent on April 18. “BetMGM saw a … whopping 161% increase in women betting on the tournament.”

Masters golf betting seems to be insolated from viewing habits. The Masters Tournament on CBS Sports had its lowest ratings since before the pandemic, according to Golf Magazine.

Still, the tournament leaders seem unfazed, predicting the event will be “the highest-rated golf tournament of the year,” as it is every year. However, plummeting TV ratings can’t be good news for the tournament organizers and CBS, which needs to sell advertising for the four-day event. For sports bettors, who can access highlights and the leaderboard in real-time on sportsbooks, TV broadcasts are not as important as they used to be.

BetMGM Sportsbook: 1 in 4 Player Prop Bets Were on Scheffler

Scheffler shot a 277, good for a four-stroke win in Augusta, Georgia. This was the second time he’s won the Masters, following his initial triumph in 2022. The New Jersey native is the No. 1-ranked player in the world, a status that’s reflected in the betting habits of the golf-loving public.

According to BetMGM, 26%, or roughly 1-in-4 player props, were placed on Scheffler during the tournament. His odds shifted from +500 before Round 1 on Thursday to -120 on Sunday morning prior to Round 4. For BetMGM Sportsbook, which operates in 22 states plus Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, the 2024 Masters couldn’t have gone better.

“The Masters was a great result for the sportsbook,” said Seamus Magee, Trading Manager at BetMGM. “Scheffler was a nice winner on our outright book, and Tiger playing the whole tournament translated into a really good weekend in Augusta for BetMGM.” ALSO READ:
