Betr will go live in Massachusetts on Monday, giving the microbetting app its second statewide launch since it was founded last year.

The app launched in Ohio on Jan. 1 of this year.

The Massachusetts launch of the innovative sports betting app, founded by social media star Jake Paul and Simplebet founder Joey Levy, was announced at today’s meeting of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission.

MGC staff said the Betr app will launch tonight but did not specify a time.

Fanatics Sportsbook – also licensed to launch its mobile sports betting app in Massachusetts – is expected to go live in the state next week, according to MGC staff.

Betr is marketed as the “world’s first” app for microbetting – a concept allowing real-time wagering on moments within a game. Microbetting will be limited to football, basketball, and baseball in Massachusetts.

Other Massachusetts Sports Betting Apps Launching Soon

Betr is one of 10 mobile sports betting apps licensed for launch in Massachusetts this year. Six mobile apps (FanDuel MA, DraftKings MA, BetMGM MA, Caesars MA, Barstool, and WynnBET) launched on March 10. Four others – BallyBet, Betr, Betway, and Fanatics – announced earlier this year that they would launch later in 2023 or in 2024.

Fanatics will potentially launch next week, MGC staff reported today. BallyBet is expected to launch later this month. Betway has announced that it does not plan to launch in Massachusetts until 2024.

Betr is operating on a one-year temporary license in Massachusetts for now. The company will need a permanent sports betting license to continue operating in the state after the temporary license expires.

Permanent licensure could lead to a deeper investigation into the financial activities of Betr officials, including Paul, who recently settled charges of violating federal securities rules in a crypto assets deal. But it is uncertain what impact, if any, the investigation will have on Betr’s future in Massachusetts.

Betr Expected to Grow

Additionally, Betr is seeking licensing in Indiana after gaining market access in the state through a partnership with EBCI (Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians) Holdings, which owns Caesars Southern Indiana.

The app is expected to use its partnership with EBCI Holdings to continue its US rollout. According to a 2022 press release, market access through EBCI “can provide potential market access to Betr in additional states.”
