While consensus picks labored to a 6-9 performance in NFL Week 8, Kyle Wainscott (Rivers Casino, Des Plaines) picked 10 winners to take a one-game lead in both the season-to-date standings and the second-quarter mini-contest.

Kyle is 71-49 through eight weeks and 29-14 for the quarter, which ends with the upcoming Week 9.

With $500 and a spot in the playoff portion of the contest at stake, Michael Hastey (DraftKings at Casino Queen) and Eric Lepard (Wynn) are just a game back in the mini-contest. Contestants will be asked to predict the total number of points scored in Monday night’s Ravens-Saints game to break any ties.

In the season-long race, Kalen Carlisle (Wynn) and Jason Scott (BetMGM) continue to make their presence felt, in second and third place, respectively, behind Wainscott.

Here again is how the prize money is being distributed for Bookies Battle 2022, an NFL picks contest among bookmakers across the US sports betting industry.

  • Regular season 1st place: $3,000
  • Regular season 2nd place: $1,000
  • Winners of quarterly mini-contests (Weeks 1-5, 6-9, 10-13, 14-18): $500 each
  • Playoff pool 1st place: $2,000

Checking in on Consensus Plays

Our consensus picks’ recent run of four straight weeks at .500 or better came to end with an overall losing effort in Week 8.

Of the six most popular selections, Titans -2 (at Texans) was the only winner.

The top play – Bengals -3 (at Browns) for nearly 80% of the field – went down in a big way Monday night, as Cleveland rolled to a 32-13 victory.

Jets +2.5 (vs Patriots) and Bears +10.5 (at Cowboys) each failed to deliver as underdogs for more than 70% of the field
