The National Council on Problem Gambling has named Charles H. Jeffers II interim executive director, effective immediately.
The organization says its search for a permanent executive director will begin in January.
Jeffers replaces Heather Maurer, who stepped down earlier this month after multiple state regulators, operators and problem gambling groups ended its relationship with the NCPG after Kalshi was allowed to join the group in a new prediction markets segment.
NCPG Sets Priorities for Interim Leadership
Jeffers will lead NCPG through its leadership transition, with a focus on operations, strategy, transparency and organizational culture, according to the announcement reported by CDC Gaming.
NCPG board president Derek Longmeier pointed to Jeffers’ management and governance experience as central to the appointment.
“Charles’ depth of experience in understanding culture dynamics, operational demands, and board governance is key to our selecting him to lead as interim executive director of NCPG,” Longmeier said.
Longmeier also outlined the interim director’s responsibilities: “As he navigates the leadership transition, he will be focused on operations aligned with strategy and transparency, and culture reflecting NCPG values.”
Jeffers Brings More Than 30 Years of Experience
Jeffers is the founder and principal consultant of The Jeffers Group. The consulting firm specializes in interim executive leadership, governance, strategic operations and organizational culture.
He brings more than 30 years of nonprofit executive leadership and organizational consulting experience. His previous roles include interim executive director of the American Occupational Therapy Association and chief executive officer of the Bermuda Tourism Authority.
The next announced step is the permanent executive director search in January. NCPG has not identified a permanent successor or provided a timetable for completing that search in the supplied announcement.
