We are backing New Orleans to keep it inside 8.5 in Baltimore, the under on Thursday night’s 53.5, and Cincinnati to take the points in Houston. Our strongest single play is the Saints, and Week 1 is the reason why.

Last week’s opening slate handed out a clear lesson about big early-season numbers, and it shapes most of what follows. Here are our best bets for Week 2, the two games we are leaving alone, and a parlay for anyone wanting the longer price.

Our Three Best Bets for Week 2

Best bet: Saints +8.5 at Ravens

The largest number on the board, against a team that just showed it does not quit.

nfl week 2 best bets odds

New Orleans trailed Detroit 21-0 in Week 1 and nearly completed the comeback, covering as a 7-point underdog with room to spare. That is not the profile of a side that gets run off the field, and 8.5 is a lot of points to lay against a team playing that way.

The Week 1 warning is louder still. The only double-digit favourite last week was the Chargers at -11.5, and Arizona beat them outright 26-14. Big early-season spreads are built on thin information, and we would rather be taking those points than laying them.

The lean: New Orleans +8.5.

Best bet: Under 53.5, Lions at Bills

The highest total of the week, and we think it is a touch too high.

The number is built on Week 1 form, where Buffalo won 36-31 and Detroit scored 21 unanswered. Both offences looked excellent. But 53.5 asks for that to happen again on a short week, and short weeks suppress scoring more than most totals account for.

Buffalo added three starters to the injury report with a Thursday kickoff and minimal recovery time. Divisional-quality defences also tend to play sharper in a second outing once the timing settles.

The lean: under 53.5.

Best bet: Bengals +2.5 at Texans

Two teams that both scored 31 or more in NFL Week 1, separated by under a field goal, with the team that actually won getting the points.

Cincinnati held off Tampa Bay 33-27. Houston lost 36-31 at Buffalo despite a 31-point offensive output, and now loses linebacker Henry To’oTo’o for an unspecified period with a shoulder injury.

Getting 2.5 with a winning team against a defence missing a starting linebacker is the value here. At +120 on the moneyline, the outright win is also live.

The lean: Cincinnati +2.5.

Two We Are Avoiding

Giants at Rams, Monday night

Not because there is no edge, but because we cannot yet see the number clearly.

The widely quoted Rams line predates their 27-7 loss to San Francisco and Myles Garrett’s placement on injured reserve. Aaron Donald may or may not return in his place. Until that resolves and the line settles, this is guesswork dressed as analysis. Revisit it Monday.

Panthers at Falcons

Atlanta laying 1.5 at home, having just lost Da’Shawn Hand for the season to a torn quadriceps.

A game already priced as a coin flip, with a defensive line now weaker than when the number was set. There may be value on Carolina, but at 1.5 the margin for error is nil. Pass.

Week 2 Parlay: Three Legs

All three drawn from the analysis above rather than reached for.

LegPickReasoning
1Saints +8.5Biggest number on the board, against a team that just erased 21 points
2Bengals +2.5Winning team getting points, opponent down a linebacker
3Under 53.5 (DET at BUF)Short week, slate-high total, Buffalo injuries

A word on parlays. They pay more because they are harder to win, not because they offer better value. Three legs near even money returns roughly 6 to 1, and the true probability of all three landing sits below what that price implies once the juice compounds. Treat it as an entertainment stake, not the core of your week.

The Rest of the Board

What Week 1 Changed About How We Bet Week 2

  • Fade the big early number. Arizona at +11.5 won outright. Baltimore and Tampa Bay laying 8.5 is this week’s version of the same question.
  • Trust the comeback teams. New Orleans covering from 21-0 down tells you more about that roster than the loss column does.
  • Scoring came early. Two Week 1 games cleared 60 combined points. But that is now priced in, which is precisely why the Thursday under is live.
  • Injury news is repricing hard. Garrett, Hand and To’oTo’o all landed after the opening lines were set.
  • Passing is a position. Two games on this board have no edge. Not betting them is the correct call.

Our Week 2 injury roundup covers the situations most likely to move these lines before kickoff.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best bet for NFL Week 2?

Saints +8.5 at Baltimore. New Orleans covered comfortably in Week 1 after trailing Detroit 21-0, and 8.5 is the joint-biggest number on a board where last week’s largest favourite lost outright.

What is the best underdog play in Week 2?

Cincinnati at +2.5 in Houston, with the moneyline around +120. The Bengals won in Week 1 while scoring 33, and Houston is without linebacker Henry To’oTo’o.

Which Week 2 games should you avoid?

Giants at Rams, until the line settles after Myles Garrett’s move to injured reserve, and Panthers at Falcons, where a 1.5-point spread leaves no margin after Atlanta lost Da’Shawn Hand for the season.

Is the Thursday night total too high?

We think so. 53.5 is the highest of the week and is built on Week 1 form, but it asks for a repeat on a short turnaround with Buffalo carrying three starters on the injury report.

Are Week 2 picks more reliable than Week 1?

Considerably. Week 1 analysis was projection with no competitive tape. Week 2 has a full round of real results behind it, which narrows the range of outcomes even though injury news still moves lines late.

Should you bet a Week 2 parlay?

Only as an entertainment stake. Parlays pay more because they are harder to win, and compounding juice means the price rarely reflects true probability. Keep singles as the core of your week.
