Intercontinental Exchange Inc. (ICE), the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange, announced Friday it has completed a $600 million direct cash investment in Polymarket. The funding is part of a larger equity round that brings ICE’s total commitment to the prediction platform to nearly $2 billion.
According to news by CoinDesk, beyond the cash injection, ICE plans to purchase up to $40 million in additional shares from existing holders. The move solidifies a partnership that began in October 2025, when ICE first invested $1 billion and secured a role as the exclusive global distributor of Polymarket’s event-driven data.
Institutional capital floods prediction markets
The rapid follow-on investment signals that major market infrastructure operators view prediction markets as a permanent asset class rather than a novelty. The move comes as the sector sees a massive influx of capital; Polymarket’s primary rival, Kalshi, recently raised over $1 billion at a $22 billion valuation.
ICE’s investment is a significant vote of confidence as prediction markets face a challenging regulatory environment. U.S. Representatives Blake Moore and Salud Carbajal recently introduced legislation that would prohibit these platforms from offering contracts on war and sports, two of the industry’s most popular categories.
Polymarket’s new AI surveillance
To address concerns over market manipulation and regulatory compliance, Polymarket has significantly bolstered its internal infrastructure. The company recently acquired a licensed exchange and clearinghouse and partnered with Palantir and TWG AI to deploy a sophisticated market surveillance system.
By implementing these high-tech monitoring tools, Polymarket aims to prove the legitimacy of crowd-sourced probabilities to institutional investors and stave off further legislative restrictions.
While the industry continues to navigate political and public scrutiny, ICE officials stated the investment is not expected to have a material impact on the firm’s overall financial results, signaling a measured but firm bet on the future of event-based trading.
