Biggest Movers So Far
- San Francisco 49ers: An unbeaten start pushed the 49ers to the top of the board at +540, making them the only team shorter than 7-1.
- Los Angeles Rams: The preseason favorites opened at +500, but a 2-4 start has pushed them out to +1200. A run to Super Bowl LXI would mean playing for the title in their own stadium.
- Seattle Seahawks: The defending champions sit at +1200 as they try to become the first repeat winner since the Chiefs in Super Bowls LVII and LVIII.

How to Read Super Bowl Odds
Super Bowl odds use the same American format as all NFL betting odds. A minus sign tells you the stake required to win $100. A plus sign shows how much you win on a $100 bet. The payout scales up or down with whatever amount you wager.
- +540: A $100 bet on the 49ers to win Super Bowl LXI returns $540 in profit, or $640 total.
- -150: On a single-game line, you would risk $150 to win $100.
- +110: A $10 bet wins $11, and a $200 bet wins $220.
Implied Probability
Every price also tells you how likely the sportsbook thinks an outcome is. Positive odds convert with 100 ÷ (odds + 100), so +540 works out to about 15.6%. Negative odds convert with odds ÷ (odds + 100), so -150 equals 60%.
- When one side is negative and the other positive, the negative side is the favorite.
- When both sides are negative, the bigger negative number is the favorite.
- In futures, the smallest positive number is the favorite.
Pro Tip: Add up the implied probabilities for every team in a futures market and you will get well over 100%. The difference is the sportsbook’s margin. Our implied probability calculator does the math for you.
Types of Super Bowl Bets
Sportsbooks post more markets for the Super Bowl than for any other game, often several thousand. Almost all of them fall into seven categories.
Moneylines
The moneyline is the simplest bet: pick which team will win. Super Bowl moneylines are often close, since both teams have already survived the playoffs.
Point Spreads
The point spread is the most popular Super Bowl bet. The favorite gives up points and the underdog gets them, so both sides carry similar odds. Here is a hypothetical example:
- San Francisco -3.5 vs. Buffalo (-110)
- Buffalo +3.5 vs. San Francisco (-110)
A bet on San Francisco wins if it wins by 4 or more points. A bet on Buffalo wins if it wins outright or loses by 3 or fewer. Alternate spreads let you buy or sell points for a bigger or smaller payout.
Totals (Over/Under)
A total is a bet on the combined score. If the line is 47.5, the over wins at 48 points or more and the under wins at 47 or fewer. Alternate totals work the same way as alternate spreads. Recent Super Bowl totals have ranged from 45.5 to 57.5.
Futures
Futures are bets on outcomes decided later, like which team wins Super Bowl LXI. Prices shorten when a team wins or adds talent, and lengthen after losses or injuries. Related markets include conference winners, the exact Super Bowl matchup, the winning division and Super Bowl MVP.
Parlays
A parlay combines several picks into one bet, and every leg must hit to pay. Same-game parlays on the Super Bowl let you stack a side, a total and player props from the same game for a much bigger potential payout, with a much higher chance of losing.
Props
- Player props: Passing yards, receptions, anytime touchdown scorer and MVP.
- Team props: Team totals, first team to score and longest touchdown.
- Game props: Will there be a safety, overtime or a score in the final two minutes of the half?
- Novelty props: Coin toss, anthem length and Gatorade color. These are not allowed in many states, so availability varies.
Live Betting
Once the game starts, sportsbooks update spreads, totals, moneylines and props in real time. Some also offer drive-by-drive and play-by-play markets, such as whether the next drive ends in a touchdown, field goal, punt or turnover.
Super Bowl Line Shopping
Line shopping means checking several sportsbooks before you bet, and it matters most on Super Bowl Sunday, when books compete hard for action. Here is a hypothetical example:
| Sportsbook | 49ers -3.5 | Bills +3.5 |
|---|---|---|
| 📗 Sportsbook A | -105 | -115 |
| 📘 Sportsbook B | -110 | -110 |
| 📙 Sportsbook C | -112 | -108 |
If you like San Francisco, Sportsbook A is the best choice because you only risk $105 to win $100. If you like Buffalo, Sportsbook C is best at -108. Small edges like these add up, especially on bigger bets.
You can also shop for the number itself. If one book has the favorite at -3 and another at -3.5, the -3 line turns a three-point win into a push instead of a loss. Since 3 is the most common margin of victory in the NFL, that half point matters. Having accounts at several sportsbooks also lets you claim more than one welcome offer.
Super Bowl Betting History
Here is how the closing spread and total played out in each of the last 10 Super Bowls:
| Super Bowl | Closing favorite | Total | Final score | Covered | Over/under |

| 🏆 LI (2017) | New England -3 | 57.5 | NE 34, ATL 28 (OT) | New England | Over |
- Underdogs have the edge: Favorites went 4-6 against the spread over this stretch, and underdogs won outright five times.
- Unders lead, barely: Six of the last 10 Super Bowls stayed under the total.
- Close lines are the norm: Seven of the last 10 spreads closed at 3 points or fewer.
Preseason Odds of Recent Champions
A few champions were heavy favorites before Week 1, but long shots win more often than you might think:
- Super Bowl LX: Seattle, +6000
- Super Bowl LIX: Philadelphia, +1200
- Super Bowl LVIII: Kansas City, +600
- Super Bowl LVII: Kansas City, +750
- Super Bowl LVI: Los Angeles Rams, +2000
- Super Bowl LV: Tampa Bay, +6000
- Super Bowl LIV: Kansas City, +700
- Super Bowl LIII: New England, +500
- Super Bowl LII: Philadelphia, +6000
- Super Bowl LI: New England, +800
Preseason prices vary by sportsbook, so treat these as approximate. The takeaway: three of the last 10 champions started the season at 60-1.
Record Betting Handle
Super Bowl betting keeps growing as more states launch. The American Gaming Association estimated $1.39 billion in legal bets on Super Bowl LIX and a record $1.76 billion for Super Bowl LX. With Missouri’s market now open, Super Bowl LXI is on track to set another record.
