UFC on ESPN 53 Odds, Props & Predictions: Ribas vs Namajunas

Former UFC Strawweight Champion Rose Namajunas is still pursuing a flyweight run against Amanda Ribas.

The two women are set to headline UFC on ESPN 53 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on Saturday.

For the first time since 2014, Rose Namajunas (11-6 MMA, 9-5 UFC) is on a two-fight losing skid. 

She is coming off back-to-back losses against Carla Esparza and Manon Fiorot and is looking to get back on track this Saturday night. 

Namajunas has wins over Zhang Weili, Joanna Jedrzejczyk, Jessica Andrade, Michelle Waterson, Tecia Torres, and Paige VanZant.

The former champ has been in the UFC as long as the strawweight division has existed but decided last year to move up to flyweight, which sets the stage for various intriguing matchups.

Amanda Ribas (13-4 MMA, 7-3 UFC) is looking to build momentum after going 2-1 in 2023. 

Ribas is coming off a fantastic TKO win against Luana Pinheiro in which she connected with a spinning wheel kick for the knockdown and then followed up with strikes to close the bout.

Ribas’ UFC career includes wins over Viviane Araujo, Mackenzie Dern, Virna Jandiroba, Paige VanZant, and Randa Markos. 

Both of these women don’t mind trading on their feet. Once they find their pocket, both have proven to be able to deliver knockout power with their punches and their kicks. 

However, both women also have a handful of submissions under their belt, so expect this bout to be a true mixed martial arts fight, especially as it’s scheduled for five rounds.

As for what happens for both fighters after this, it is hard to say. If Ribas beats Namajunas, that could skyrocket her stock and make a case for a title contender eliminator matchup next. But if Namajunas wins, it’s just the rebound she needs to keep moving.
