Washington Sports Betting: Top WA Sportsbook Apps

Washington sports betting is legal, but only in a limited capacity. Bettors in the state can place wagers at retail sportsbooks or via one sportsbook app, so long as they’re at a retail casino or sportsbook property.

HB 2638 made Washington sports betting a reality in 2020. Gov. Jay Inslee signed the bill into law in March of that year, and sportsbooks started to offer retail betting soon after.

The only online sportsbook available in Washington is the Snoqualmie Casino Sportsbook, which can be used exclusively at the Snoqualmie Casino.

On this page, we cover all the details about Washington sports betting, including industry news and revenue, where to bet, and much more.

What’s Happening in Washington Sports Betting News Right Now?

  • March 17, 2024: The Gonzaga Bulldogs extend their March Madness streak to 25 seasons on Selection Sunday. Also, Washington State returns to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2008. However, you can’t bet on in-state teams with your visit to a Washington tribal casino. Oregon is the nearest option. Fans can download and use the DraftKings app during a visit to the Beaver State.
  • February 11, 2024: Super Bowl betting and March Madness betting are still limited to in-person wagers and mobile bets while you are on reservation lands. Some state card room operators have unsuccessfully tried to challenge the state’s tribal gaming exclusivity in the past.
  • January 1, 2024: Two new bills — HB 1630 and SB 5587 —resurface in Washington state after stalling a year prior. The bills would add new mobile sports betting options but keep the in-person betting requirements.

Washington State Sportsbook Bonuses and Promo Codes

If you’re searching for Washington’s best sportsbook promotions, you must visit a retail casino. Because there’s only one sports betting app in the state — requiring you to be physically located on the property to place wagers — all sportsbook offers are tied to the retail presence.

You won’t find typical bonuses such as deposit matches or other promos.

Types of Bets at WA Sportsbooks

Washington sportsbooks offer a wide variety of bet types. In this section, we’ll explain the most common wagers and how they work.

Moneyline

Moneyline bets might sound intimidating, but they’re quite simple. Pick a team to win. You might see odds like the following:

  • Seattle Seahawks -250
  • Chicago Bears +310

The -250 odds mean the Seahawks are favored to win. If successful, a $250 bet on Seattle would pay out $350 total ($100 in profit plus the initial bet).

Meanwhile, the Bears’ odds are +310, which makes them the underdog. A $100 bet on the Bears would pay $310 (plus the initial $100 back).

Point Spread

The point spread evens things out when teams are mismatched. Here’s an example:

  • Seattle Seahawks -6.5 (-110)
  • Chicago Bears +6.5 (-110)

Like the example above, this one shows us that the Bears are the underdogs against the Seahawks. Therefore, the Seahawks have a -6.5 spread. This means they must win the game by seven or more points for a spread bet to hit. A final score of Seahawks 21, Bears 10 would mean the Seahawks “cover” the spread. Meanwhile, the Bears must either win outright or lose by fewer than 6 points to cover and reward their spread bettors.

Total (Over/Under)

When you hear the term “Over/Under,” it comes from the world of totals betting. Sportsbooks display a number, and you bet on whether the teams in the game will combine for more points or fewer. For example:

Seattle Storm vs. Chicago Sky

  • Over 179.5 (-112)
  • Under 179.5 (-108)

Here, it doesn’t matter which team wins. What matters is the total number of points scored. If you bet the Over and the Storm and Sky end the game at 95-90, the total is 185, and you win. However, if the score was 90-78, the total would be 168, and the Under would be the winning bet.

Props

“Prop” is short for “proposition.” It’s a fancy term for an outcome not inherently tied to the game’s outcome. Player props are particularly popular. For example, you might see props for Nneka Ogwumike to make 2+ three-pointers or Geno Smith to throw 2+ touchdowns in a game.

We’re just scratching the surface here. Props can cover all potential stats or outcomes, varying widely by sport.

Parlays

Parlays combine multiple bets into a single wager. The catch? Each bet is called a “leg,” and the parlay only wins if every leg is successful. Parlays can have great potential payouts, but they come with greater risk. One tiny mistake can break your wager.

The Washington Huskies football team won national championships in 1960 and 1991. However, they lost to Michigan in the 2024 College Football Playoff national championship game. In 2024-2025, Washington will move to the Big Ten conference.

The UW basketball team has made 17 NCAA Tournament appearances, with one Final Four (1953). The Huskies were 17-15 in 2023-2024.

The Washington State football team has made 17 bowl appearances (7-10) and won four conference championships, most recently in 2002. Along with Oregon State, the two remaining members of the Pac-12 Conference, the Cougars will play six games against Mountain West opponents in 2024.

The Cougars basketball program has been to one Final Four (1941) and seven NCAA Tournaments, the last of which was in 2024 when they lost in the second round to Iowa State.

Gonzaga men’s basketball is a mainstay in the NCAA Tournament with two Final Fours (2017, 2021) and six Elite Eights in 26 appearances. The Bulldogs went 27-8 in 2024, advancing to the Sweet 16.

Washington prohibits betting on in-state college teams, a rule that many states apply to prevent corruption at the NCAA level. You can bet on college teams from other states, but oddsmakers won’t list Gonzaga, Washington State, or the University of Washington.

What To Look for in Washington Sports Betting Apps

Odds and Lines

This category is simple: does the sportsbook offer competitive odds, and can it beat its rivals with better pricing on certain bets? Additionally, we look for the variety of bet types offered. The more, the better.

Betting Markets and Available Sports

“Less is more” doesn’t apply here. More is more! Sportsbooks that offer more sports and leagues will inevitably have the edge over their competitors. State gambling commissions typically approve sports for wagering, so it isn’t always up to the sportsbooks.

App Experience and Ease

A sports betting app should be easy to navigate with intuitive menus and a nice color scheme. Placing bets, making a deposit, contacting customer support, and any other actions should be streamlined and require only a few clicks or taps of the screen.

Payment and Withdrawal Options

PayPal, ACH e-check, online banking, credit/debit cards, and PayNearMe are some of the top payment and withdrawal options at sportsbooks. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, this is another “the more the merrier” category. Variety isn’t the only thing to look for, though. We also evaluate payment processing times and any terms and conditions governing how your money is handled.

Security and Support

We review the security practices at every sportsbook review, including SSL encryption, measures that keep your data safe, and verification processes. We also test each customer support channel firsthand to report on the experience, speed, and helpfulness of the representatives.

Bonuses and Promotions

Sign-up bonuses and promotions for existing players are a massive part of the sports betting experience. We review the terms and offers at each sportsbook, seeking out details like playthrough requirements, deadlines, and playback periods so you know the ins and outs of any bonus you wish to claim.

How Washington Sports Betting Compares to Nearby States

Washington shares borders with two states and a single Canadian province. As of this writing, the region is relatively barren for sports betting.

To Washington’s south lies Oregon. Oregon has restrictions similar to those of its northern neighbor, but there’s one notable exception. Legal sports betting first came to Oregon through the Oregon Lottery Scoreboard app. In 2022, DraftKings took over and is now the only legal mobile sportsbook in the state. A few tribal casinos also offer sports betting on property.

Washington’s eastern border butts up against Idaho’s panhandle. Idaho has no legal sports betting of any form.

Finally, British Columbia lies to Washington’s north. The province has one sportsbook, PlayNow, operated by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation. It only accepts single-game sports bets, so parlays are not allowed.
