New Hampshire sports betting has surpassed more than $1.5 billion in total handle after becoming operational three years ago.
DraftKings is the exclusive mobile sportsbook operator in New Hampshire. The New Hampshire Lottery regulates sports betting in the Granite State.
We’ve yet to see how New Hampshire sports betting has been impacted by Massachusetts launching legal sports betting in 2023.
New Hampshire Sports Betting Recent Updates

The strength and speed of this intuitive app make it a must-have for new and seasoned bettors alike. DraftKings NH offers one of the best live betting platforms in the industry.
The DraftKings Sportsbook app also gives New Hampshire bettors many ways to wager on a huge assortment of sports. Check out same-game parlays, round-robin bets, and cross-sport parlays to start.
After the welcome bonus, DraftKings offers its customers several different ongoing promotions. These include “free to play” contests that can help add to your winnings. DraftKings also has a “refer a friend” promotion that offers up to a $100 free bet for each new customer that registers an account.
DraftKings also offers three retail sportsbook locations in New Hampshire. The Brook was the first retail location to launch in the summer of 2020 in Seabrook, NH. DraftKings Sportsbook at Manchester followed before DraftKings Sportsbook at Dover came on board as the third retail location in 2021. How to Place a Bet in New Hampshire
You can, of course, visit the retail sportsbooks referenced above to place in-person bets.
But the easiest way to place a bet in New Hampshire is to download the DraftKings sports betting app. Apple iOS users will do this at the App Store, and Android users can download the app at the Google Play Store. There are a few simple steps to take after you download the DraftKings app to your mobile device before placing a bet.
Register your new account: Just provide personal information including your name, date of birth, Social Security number, email address, and mailing address. DraftKings will follow up with an email to verify your information and account.
Fund your account: Make your first deposit at DraftKings by using online banking, PayPal, or wire transfer. Those are our three recommended options for deposits and withdrawals at DraftKings Sportsbook. Remember to use our exclusive DraftKings promo code to ensure you receive the welcome bonus offer, too. The $50 free bet will be triggered upon successful registration of your account. The matching bonus will correspond with the amount of your first deposit.
Make your first bet: Navigate to the sport you want to wager on and click the game of interest. Click on the odds for your chosen team or outcome, enter a bet amount, and then verify the information is all correct. Hit submit and you’ve successfully placed your first bet!
You don’t need to be a resident of New Hampshire to sign up for a new account at DraftKings Sportsbook. But the DraftKings sports betting app is equipped with geolocating technology that will prevent mobile bets from being placed outside of New Hampshire. Just remember that you need to be within the boundaries of the state when placing a mobile wager.
New Hampshire Legal Sportsbooks
Legal sportsbooks such as DraftKings are regulated by state gaming commissions across the US. The New Hampshire Lottery oversees its business dealings and helps protect consumer interests in the Granite State. We strongly advise against using illegal or offshore sportsbooks. They aren’t beholden to a state gaming commission or any type of regulatory oversight body. Your money and personal information can be put at risk as illegal sportsbooks often use inferior online security systems. You’ll also have no recourse if a dispute arises with an illegal sportsbook in the future. If an issue comes up with DraftKings, you have the ability to file a complaint with the New Hampshire Lottery.
What about your winnings as a sports bettor in New Hampshire? Remember when we told you to provide your Social Security number when registering for a new account at DraftKings? There’s no state income tax in New Hampshire, but winnings are subject to a federal gambling tax. Losses can also be deducted. The IRS requires you to submit a WG-2 form for winnings of more than $5,000.
New Hampshire Sports Betting Revenue
The New Hampshire Lottery releases a comprehensive financial report and revenue sheet that is made public to state residents. In its most recent report for the fiscal year 2023, New Hampshire’s total sports betting handle was $164,262,910 for the months of July, August, and September of 2022. Mobile sports betting led the way with $124,451,745. Retail sports betting handle checked in at $39,811,165. New Hampshire received $7,291,541 in state tax revenue. For fiscal year 2022, New Hampshire had a total sports betting handle of $861,106,439 with nearly $24 million going into the state’s tax coffers.
How New Hampshire Compares to Other States
It’s difficult to compare New Hampshire to other states given DraftKings is the sole online sportsbook operator in the Granite State. As mentioned, DraftKings is an elite sportsbook in the US, but New Hampshire sports bettors could benefit from having other options in the future. The golden rule of sports betting involves shopping around the industry for the best available odds on your bets. This is a key to success as a sports bettor, and it helps make long-term profitability possible.
Unfortunately, this simply isn’t possible in New Hampshire with DraftKings being the only operator. DraftKings has earned a reputation for dealing highly competitive odds on a wide variety of sports, but competition in the marketplace always ensures the highest quality of odds being offered. In terms of dollars, New Hampshire has a total betting handle of $1,613,212,389 since it started offering legal sports betting in Dec. 2019. That compares favorably to Rhode Island ($1,250,954,149) and Connecticut ($1,366,872,724).
New Hampshire Betting Successes
The New Hampshire Lottery set a new sales record in fiscal year 2022 at more than $536.5 million. That was up 3.3% or $17.6 million over the previous year’s record high of $519 million. New Hampshire Lottery officials announced that sports betting was a big part of that new benchmark. Sports wagering increased by 65% year-over-year.
“The New Hampshire Lottery continues to build on its record-breaking success and momentum, generating more than $536 million in total sales and delivering more than $146 million in revenue to support our public schools, teachers, and students statewide,” New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu said in a press release.
Where New Hampshire Could Improve
New Hampshire could benefit from the addition of more sportsbook operators in the future. Neighboring Vermont has yet to legalize sports betting, but there’s the possibility that state lawmakers will approve a proposal that includes up to six operators in Jan. 2023. Massachusetts legalized sports betting earlier this year and it’s expected to launch in 2023.
Simply put, New Hampshire residents will have more options — and incentives — to travel across state lines to wager on sports in the near future. By adding more online sportsbook operators, New Hampshire will have a better chance of keeping its sports bettors at home and doing their business in the Granite State.
Legalization Effort in New Hampshire
HB 480 was introduced early in the 2019 legislative session, and it didn’t take long until the sports betting bill was passed. The biggest hurdle to passage involved the push by some legislators to attach a provision to allow casinos in New Hampshire. That effort was ultimately overcome. New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu signed the bill into law on July 12, 2019.
State legislators approved both retail and online sports betting. DraftKings secured New Hampshire’s only mobile license as an online operator. Sununu made the state’s ceremonial first bet in Dec. 2019 — a wager on the New England Patriots to win the Super Bowl. Unfortunately for him, the Kansas Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers, 31-20, to win Super Bowl 54. Mobile sports betting began in earnest early in 2020.

New Hampshire Professional Teams
New Hampshire’s ties to New England weigh heavily into the state’s allegiances to professional sports teams. The region is home to four of the most successful teams in their respective sports: New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics, and Boston Bruins.
New England Patriots (NFL)
The Patriots are one of the most successful organizations in all of sports. No team has won more Super Bowls than New England. The Patriots won six Super Bowl titles between 2002-2019 under the direction of head coach Bill Belichick and QB Tom Brady. Even with Brady playing now in Tampa Bay, New Hampshire sports bettors still support him.
After Brady announced his return to the NFL in March, the New Hampshire Lottery saw a 1,000% increase in total bets and a 2,900% increase in dollars wagered on the Buccaneers to win Super Bowl 57 in February.
Betting on the NFL is the most popular of all sports. DraftKings offers several ways to wager on pro football: spread, moneyline, total, props, live bets, parlays, same-game parlays, teasers, futures, and more.
Boston Red Sox (MLB)
The Red Sox are another pro sports franchise steeped in tradition. Boston has won nine World Series championships, most recently in 2018. If you’ve spent any time in New Hampshire at all during the summer months, then you know just how rabid Red Sox fans can be in the Granite State.
Baseball betting is largely focused on moneyline bets, but you can also wager on totals and player props. The spread in baseball is known as the run line. Live betting is also available at DraftKings.
Futures odds are available on all MLB teams to win the World Series, too.
Boston Celtics (NBA)
The Celtics are tied with the Los Angeles Lakers as the winningest NBA franchise in all-time history. Boston has won 17 NBA championships — and the Celtics almost made it 18 last season before losing to the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals.
DraftKings offers several different ways to get down on NBA action. Spread, moneyline, totals, live bets, parlays, props, and teasers are all available.
Boston Bruins (NHL)
The Bruins have captured six Stanley Cup titles. The most recent championship season came in 2011.
Betting on hockey is also popular. For individual games, you can bet on the puckline (spread), moneyline, total, and props. These often take the form of how many goals, assists, points, and shots an individual player will have in the game — or the number of saves made by a goaltender.
DraftKings also offers futures odds on teams to win the Stanley Cup. As of this writing, the Bruins were being dealt at odds of +800. Boston was the second betting favorite to win the 2023 Stanley Cup behind only Colorado.
New Hampshire College Sports Teams
New Hampshire’s sports betting law does not allow wagering on in-state college teams — or on college games being played in the Granite State. There are no restrictions on betting on college teams in other states or on national championship games in New Hampshire.
There are some college teams in New England that attract betting dollars. Boston College is perhaps the most notable school in the region. The Eagles typically have competitive football and basketball programs.
To a lesser degree, schools such as Boston University, Holy Cross, and Harvard also have Division I programs that New Hampshire sports bettors can wager on.
Other Sports to Bet on in New Hampshire
Betting on soccer has become popular in recent years. The English Premier League is the most popular as it features high-profile teams such as Manchester United and Liverpool. Major League Soccer is the No. 1 league in the US. Individual sports at DraftKings can also include a large number of leagues across the globe, and soccer provides the best example of this. You can bet on tier-one leagues in Italy, Spain, Brazil, Germany, and many more. DraftKings will also have several betting markets on the 2022 World Cup when the world’s biggest sporting event begins this month in Qatar.
New Hampshire sports bettors also have access to a number of niche sports at DraftKings. There are betting markets available on Rugby League, Rugby Union, and Aussie Rules Football. You will also find darts, cricket, snooker, cycling, handball, e-sports, table tennis, volleyball, and lacrosse on the menu.
The Granite State also plays host to two NASCAR Cup Series races each year at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. DraftKings offers a variety of ways to bet on NASCAR with moneyline odds, driver props, futures bets, and more.
