New Hampshire Sports Betting Info & NH Sportsbook Apps

New Hampshire sports betting is unique compared to other legal markets across the United States. The practice was legalized in the state in July 2019 when Gov. Chris Sununu signed HB 480 into law. However, the state has only one mobile sportsbook option: DraftKings.

The NH legal betting age is 18, making it one of the few states to allow legal sports betting for people under 21. Finally, New Hampshire doesn’t have a single major professional sports team.

All that said, New Hampshire residents and visitors who want to wager on sports have that ability. The state has a few retail sportsbooks in addition to the DraftKings betting app.

DraftKings New Hampshire

DraftKings is the only mobile sportsbook operator in New Hampshire. That has been the case since sports betting launched in December 2019. The Boston-based company signed an exclusive deal with the state that included a 50-50% revenue split.

New Hampshire sports bettors don’t have many options for mobile sportsbooks, but DraftKings New Hampshire offers a best-in-class sports betting platform. The app has a stellar 4.8/5 star rating after more than 400,000 customer reviews at the iOS App Store. The strength and speed of this intuitive app make it a must-have for new and seasoned bettors alike. DraftKings NH also offers one of the best live betting platforms in the industry.

  • DraftKings availability: iOS, Android, desktop site.
  • Local Partner: DraftKings is an official betting partner of Major League Baseball. It also has deals with various pro teams, including the NBA’s Boston Celtics.
  • Key Features: Speedy app, competitive odds, superior live-betting platform, regular promotions for existing customers.
  • Payment Methods: Online banking, wire transfer, and PayPal are among the convenient deposit and withdrawal options at DraftKings.
  • Gaming Today Rating: 4.8

The DraftKings Sportsbook app gives New Hampshire bettors many ways to wager on various sports. Check out same-game parlays, round-robin bets, and cross-sport parlays to start.

After the welcome bonus, DraftKings offers its customers several different ongoing promotions. These include “free to play” contests that can help increase winnings.

How To Bet on Sports in New Hampshire

You can, of course, visit the retail sportsbooks referenced above to place in-person bets.

However, the easiest way to learn how to bet is to download the DraftKings sports betting app. Apple iOS users will do this at the App Store, and Android users can download the app at the Google Play Store. There are a few simple steps to take after you download the DraftKings app to your mobile device before placing a bet.

1

Register Your New Account

Just provide personal information, including your name, date of birth, Social Security number, email address, and mailing address. DraftKings will follow up with an email to verify your information and account.

2

Fund Your Account

Make your first deposit at DraftKings by using online banking, PayPal, or wire transfer. Those are our three recommended options for deposits and withdrawals at DraftKings Sportsbook. Remember to claim the sportsbook welcome bonus offer, too. The $50 bonus bet will be triggered upon successful registration of your account. The matching bonus will correspond with the amount of your first deposit.

3

Place Your First Bet

Navigate to the sport you want to wager on and click the game or betting market of interest. Click the odds for your chosen team or outcome, enter a bet amount, and then verify the information is correct. Hit “submit” to place your first bet!

You don’t need to be a resident of New Hampshire to sign up for a new account at DraftKings Sportsbook. But the DraftKings sports betting app is equipped with geolocating technology that will prevent mobile bets from being placed outside of New Hampshire. Just remember that you need to be within the state’s boundaries when placing a mobile wager.

Types of Bets at New Hampshire Sportsbooks

There are hundreds of ways to place bets at sportsbooks across the US. Here, we break down some of the most common options you’ll see for each sport.

Moneyline

The moneyline is the most elementary bet style. You’re simply betting on a win-or-lose outcome. Bettors will pick the winner of a game or event, and based on the likelihood of that outcome, there will be different odds. Negative odds indicate the favorite and positive odds denote the underdog.

Prop Bets

Prop bets do not rely on the outcome or score of a game or event. Instead, you’re betting on player stats or game stats. For example, users can bet on a specific player to score a goal in a game, the number of saves or rebounds a player records, or the total points scored by a player.

There are also many “yes/no” prop bets at New Hampshire sportsbooks. For instance, you can choose whether a team will record a shutout and whether there will be a 2-point conversion.

Parlay Bets

Parlays combine many wagers into one to increase potential winnings. Parlays can be placed within the same game or across leagues and teams. The key factor to remember with any parlay bet is that you must win every “leg” (individual bet) to see any money at all.

Sports To Bet on in New Hampshire

New Hampshire’s ties to New England weigh heavily into the state’s allegiances to professional sports teams. The region is home to four of the most successful teams in their respective sports: New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics, and Boston Bruins.

NFL Betting in New Hampshire

The Patriots are one of the most successful organizations in all of sports. No team has won more Super Bowls than New England. Between 2002 and 2019, the Patriots won six Super Bowl titles under the direction of head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady.

Betting on the NFL is the most popular of all sports. DraftKings offers several ways to wager on pro football: spreads, moneylines, totals, props, live bets, parlays, same-game parlays, teasers, futures, and more.

Does DraftKings have the best NFL odds? Check out the moneylines, spreads, and futures at other sportsbooks.

MLB Betting in New Hampshire

The Red Sox are another pro sports franchise steeped in tradition. Boston has won nine World Series championships, most recently in 2018. If you’ve spent any time in New Hampshire at all during the summer months, then you know just how rabid Red Sox fans can be in the Granite State.

Baseball betting is largely focused on moneyline bets, but you can also wager on totals and player props. The spread in baseball is known as the run line. Live betting is also available at DraftKings.

MLB odds are available, including futures odds to win the World Series.

NBA Betting in New Hampshire

The Celtics have surpassed the Los Angeles Lakers as the winningest NBA franchise in all-time history. The franchise earned its league-record 18th NBA Championship when they defeated the Dallas Mavericks in the 2024 NBA Finals.

DraftKings offers several different ways to add a layer of excitement as you watch the NBA. Spread, moneyline, totals, live bets, parlays, props, and other NBA odds are all available.

NHL Betting in New Hampshire

The Bruins have captured six Stanley Cup titles. The most recent championship came in 2011.

Betting on hockey is also popular in New Hampshire. For individual games, you can bet on the puckline (spread), moneyline, total, and props. These often take the form of how many goals, assists, points, and shots an individual player will have in the game or the number of saves by a goaltender.

DraftKings also offers futures odds on teams to win the Stanley Cup.

NHL odds are popular in the Granite State. See the best odds for hockey bets at DraftKings and beyond.

New Hampshire College Sports Teams

The Granite State is home to two Division I athletic departments. The University of New Hampshire Wildcats compete in the America East Conference, and Dartmouth College is a member of the Ivy League. Both conferences traditionally receive only one bid to March Madness.

New Hampshire’s sports betting law does not allow wagering on March Madness odds for in-state college teams or on college games being played in the Granite State. There are no restrictions on betting on college teams in other states or on national championship games in New Hampshire.

NH college restriction hasn’t been a factor for postseason college basketball odds.

  • New Hampshire is a member of the “Never Made the Tourney Club.”
  • Dartmouth had an elite program in the 1940s, including NCAA Tournament championship game appearances in 1942 and 1944. The Big Green last appeared in the 1959 NCAA Tournament, however.

Both New Hampshire (CAA Football) and Dartmouth College (Ivy) compete at the FCS level for college football. New Hampshire has 17 FCS playoff appearances, including 14 in a row from 2004 to 2017. Dartmouth shared the 2023 conference championship with Harvard and Yale. The Ivy League schools traditionally do not participate in the FCS Playoffs, however.

NH College Sports Betting

There are some college teams in New England that attract betting dollars. Boston College is perhaps the most notable school in the region. The Eagles field football and basketball programs in the ACC.

To a lesser degree, schools such as Boston University, Holy Cross, and Harvard also have Division I programs that New Hampshire sports bettors like to support.

Other Sports To Bet on in New Hampshire

Betting on soccer has become popular in recent years. The English Premier League is the most popular as it features high-profile teams such as Manchester United and Liverpool. Meanwhile, Major League Soccer is the No. 1 league in the US.

New Hampshire sports bettors also have access to a number of niche sports at DraftKings. There are betting markets available on rugby league, rugby union, and Aussie rules football. You will also find darts, cricket, snooker, cycling, handball, esports, table tennis, volleyball, and lacrosse on the menu.

The Granite State also plays host to two NASCAR Cup Series races each year at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. DraftKings offers a variety of ways to bet on NASCAR with moneyline odds, driver props, futures bets, and more.

New Hampshire Sports Betting Laws

New Hampshire sports betting was legalized when Gov. Chris Sununu signed HB 480 with New Hampshire lottery officials and lawmakers on July 12, 2019. Mobile sports betting began in earnest in 2020.

The New Hampshire Lottery and DraftKings Inc. officially launched mobile and online sports betting in New Hampshire on Dec. 30, 2019.

HB 480 was introduced early in the 2019 legislative session, and it didn’t take long until the sports betting bill was passed. The biggest hurdle to passage involved the push by some legislators to attach a provision to allow casinos in New Hampshire. That effort was ultimately overcome.

State legislators approved both retail and online sports betting. DraftKings secured New Hampshire’s only mobile license as an online operator. Sununu made the state’s ceremonial first bet in December 2019—a futures bet on the New England Patriots to win the Super Bowl. Unfortunately for him, the Pats didn’t make it that far. (The Chiefs beat the Niners in the end.)

DraftKings’ contract with the New Hampshire Lottery was approved in November 2019 by the Executive Council after being selected through a bidding process. The agreement calls for New Hampshire to receive 50% of sports betting revenue.

DraftKings will also approved to operate as many as 10 retail sportsbook locations throughout the state.

  • NH sports betting tax rate: Online is 51 percent GGR; Retail is 50 percent GGR
  • Legal betting age: 18 years old minimum
  • Authorized operators: Up to 10 retail agents and 5 online agents of the New Hampshire Lottery Commission
  • Wagering restrictions: Betting is not allowed on in-state collegiate teams and any collegiate game taking place in the state, except for multi-site tournaments that include games that are played in-state and out-of-state (e.g., March Madness).

Legalization Timeline of New Hampshire Sports Betting

New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu signed House Bill 480 on July 12, 2019. The new law created a Division of Sports Wagering within the New Hampshire Lottery. Sports bettors must be 18 or older. There was also a restriction included for betting on New Hampshire college teams and college games contested in the state.

Berlin, Claremont, Laconia, Manchester, and Somersworth voted on Nov. 16, 2019, to allow the operation of retail sportsbooks.

The New Hampshire Executive Council approved a contract between the New Hampshire Lottery and DraftKings Inc. on Nov. 25, 2019. The action made DraftKings the state’s only mobile sportsbook operator. The New Hampshire Lottery receives 50% of the revenue from sports betting sales under the terms of the deal.

Legal Betting Markets in New Hampshire

You will find odds for all major sports and professional leagues from the NH sports betting apps. Here’s a taste of the options.

  • National Football League (NFL)
  • National Hockey League (NHL)
  • Major League Baseball (MLB)
  • National Basketball Association (NBA)
  • NCAA football, basketball, baseball
  • Golf via the PGA (Professional Golf Association) and LPGA
  • Tennis via the World Tennis Association (WTA)
  • NASCAR and other professional auto-racing
  • European professional soccer leagues, such as Premier League
  • Canadian Football League (CFL)
  • MMA and UCF (fighting)
  • The Olympics
  • World Cup Soccer
  • World Baseball Classic

Currently, only DraftKings has received a sports wagering operator license in NH.

New Hampshire Sports Betting Revenue

The New Hampshire Lottery releases a comprehensive financial report and revenue sheet to state residents. In its most recent report for the fiscal year 2024, New Hampshire’s total sports betting handle was $59.9 million for April 2024. This is down 8% from the $65.1 million reported in April 2023.

The arrival of Massachusetts sports betting and Vermont sports betting may be a factor in DraftKings’ dip in the Granite State. Customers who used to cross state lines for New Hampshire sports bets no longer have to travel.

April 2024 betting was down 17.6% compared to $72.6 million in March 2024. The betting pace will slow down in New Hampshire as the summer months arrive.

Online Casinos

New Hampshire has not legalized online casinos or iGaming. You cannot download apps like DraftKings Casino. In 2022 and 2024, at least one member of the state House of Representatives proposed a bill to make iGaming legal. But no bill has ever been submitted for an online casino gaming act.

Horse Racing Betting

Since the state legalized horse racing in 2019, consumers have been able to place legal bets on the activity. However, no tracks in New Hampshire host live races. Bettors can wager on horse races that take place in other states and possibly internationally via the DraftKings Sportsbook app.

Online Poker

No, online poker is not available in New Hampshire.

Daily Fantasy Sports

DFS operators are active in New Hampshire, though the market is limited to DraftKings and FanDuel, which have dedicated DFS mobile apps and websites.

Lottery

New Hampshire has the oldest legal lottery in the United States. The state began running lottery games in 1963. The Granite State now offers lotto-style games and scratch-off tickets at several retail locations across the state. Revenue from the New Hampshire Lottery is used for education programs.

How New Hampshire Compares to Other States

It’s difficult to compare New Hampshire to other legal betting states, given DraftKings is the sole online sportsbook operator in the Granite State. As mentioned, DraftKings is an elite US sportsbook, but New Hampshire sports bettors could benefit from having other options in the future.

The golden rule of sports betting involves shopping around the industry for the best available odds on your bets. This is a key to long-term success as a sports bettor.

Unfortunately, this isn’t possible in New Hampshire, where DraftKings is the only operator. DraftKings has earned a reputation for offering highly competitive odds on various sports, but competition in the marketplace always ensures the highest quality of odds. In terms of dollars, New Hampshire has a total betting handle of $2.71 billion since it started offering legal sports betting in December 2019. That compares favorably to Rhode Island ($1.9 billion) and Connecticut ($3.6 billion).

Pros and Cons of New Hampshire Sports Betting

New Hampshire relies on a well-known and polished sportsbook via its exclusive relationship with DraftKings.

The New Hampshire Lottery set a new sales record in fiscal year 2023 at more than $883.6 million. That was up 2.3% from the previous year’s record high of $861.1 million.

That said, New Hampshire could benefit from the addition of more sportsbook operators in the future. Neighboring Vermont and Massachusetts have added online sports betting to their states.

Pros

  • Wide range of online betting opportunities
  • DraftKings is available
  • Retail sites available

Cons

  • Only one sportsbook is live
  • Restrictions on wagering on college sports

New Hampshire Responsible Gaming

The New Hampshire Lottery and DraftKings work together to promote responsible gaming. DraftKings offers features like customer-driven bet limits, cooling-off periods, and a self-exclusion option to prevent users from continuing unhealthy betting patterns.

The NH Council on Problem Gambling site is available as well. The resources include a 24/7 helpline at (603) 724-1605. The non-profit agency has a mission to “address the social, financial, and emotional costs” of problem gambling through education, referrals, and gambling treatment programs.

New Hampshire Sports Betting FAQ

Yes. Sports betting was legalized in 2019, and mobile wagering began in earnest early the next year. DraftKings is the only online sportsbook operator in New Hampshire. DraftKings also runs retail sportsbooks in the Granite State.

Yes, but there are restrictions on in-state college teams and college games played in New Hampshire. Aside from that, sports bettors can enjoy wagering on any other college games across the country, including national championship contests.

You’ll need to be physically in New Hampshire when making a mobile bet, but you don’t need to be a resident of the state. Many Massachusetts residents cross the state line into New Hampshire to place sports bets. During last year’s Super Bowl, 28% of bettors at DraftKings had residential addresses in Massachusetts.

No. DraftKings is the sole online sportsbook in New Hampshire. It has an exclusive deal with the state. That said, FanDuel’s DFS product is available.

18 or older. New Hampshire is unlike most states, where sports bettors must be 21 or older.

The only thing you can’t bet on are in-state college teams or college games being played in New Hampshire. Everything else is fair game. As of this writing, the A-to-Z list of sports includes Aussie rules football, baseball, basketball, boxing, cricket, cycling, darts, esports, football, golf, handball, hockey, lacrosse, MMA, motorsports, rugby, snooker, soccer, softball, table tennis, and tennis.
