Betfred Sportsbook Arizona wants users to close out their accounts by Nov. 4 as it executes an exit plan for the Grand Canyon State.
The operator has already stopped accepting online wagers, deposits, and new registrations as of Thursday night, Sept. 19, 2024. Users have until 10 p.m. local time on the first Monday of November to withdraw money from their account.
Arizona customers should make sure the mailing address is current in their user profile. Betfred will issue a check for any remaining balance within 30 days of the Nov. 4 closeout.
Betfred also told its Arizona customers it settled outstanding bets “based on a fair market value as an early cash out” on Friday, Sept. 20.
“Any stake and/or winning eligible will be credited to your account to be accessible for withdrawing,” the company posted on its website.
Betfred Exit Ends 33-Month Run
Betfred Sportsbook Arizona gained market access through its agreement with Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation. The sports betting app debuted with a soft launch in January 2022 and made a formal Arizona sports betting debut on March 7, 2022.
“We look forward to working with our fantastic partner, the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation, to leverage our 50 years of bookmaking experience to bring the best betting options to Arizona sports fans,” Betfred Group Chief Operating Officer Mark Stebbings said at the time.
Betfred Sportsbook Arizona also had a retail presence at We-Ko-Pa Casino Resort in Fort McDowell, AZ. The casino’s website still promotes in-person sports bets through its house-branded WKP Sportsbook. Guests can use four betting windows and eight 24/7 betting kiosks during a visit.
The Betfred Sportsbook announcement continues the company’s retreat from the US market. The company left Maryland on July 31, Ohio on Aug. 31, and Colorado, also on Aug. 31. Betfred Sportsbook closed its retail operations in Louisiana as well.
The company still operates sportsbooks in:
- Iowa
- Nevada (retail only)
- Pennsylvania (W Sportsbook is powered by Betfred)
- Virginia
- Washington (retail only)
Betfred Captured Fraction of Arizona Market Share
Arizona bettors placed about $2 million in June 2024 wagers with Betfred, but that was just a fraction of the state’s $454.1 million handle for the most recent reporting month.
The state’s sportsbooks have accepted about $3.8 billion in bets through the first six months of the year. Since its inception, about $18.1 billion in Arizona sports bets have changed hands.
Arizona is down to 13 sports betting options with Betfred’s departure.
Betway, SuperBook Sports, Unibet, and SaharaBets join Betfred among Arizona’s exits in 2024. The state added a trio of major operators this year with the arrivals of bet365 Sportsbook and Fanatics Sportsbook. Sporttrade, a designee for the Quechan Indian Tribe of the Fort Yuma Indian Reservation, is also live.
In August 2024, the Arizona Department of Gaming (ADG) awarded Plannatech a sports betting license as the designee for the San Carlos Apache Tribal Gaming Enterprise, so an Apache Gold or Apache Sky sports betting app is a possibility.
