MGM Resorts (MGM Resorts International 36,66 -0,49%) has announced plans to introduce its BetMGM brand to the Netherlands, marking its second exploration into the European market. This decision follows the brand’s successful launch in the United Kingdom.
In a way that’s akin to BetMGM’s introduction in the United Kingdom over the summer of 2023, the launch was made possible by the technology stack of LeoVegas, which is owned by MGM Resorts.
While MGM was still in the process of acquiring the Swedish operator LeoVegas for $604 million in 2022, the company has been keen on expanding its interactive offerings internationally.
“Our launch in the UK was tremendously successful, and we eagerly anticipate bringing the golden Vegas experience to the Netherlands.
“This launch in the Dutch market is an important step in our international expansion, but we have much more in store,” Gustaf Hagman, Group Chief Executive Officer at LeoVegas Group, said.

Dutch Market Growth Fuels MGM’s Global Ambitions Amid Challenges
MGM Resorts stated that the Netherlands move is part of a larger goal to continue expanding internationally for the company.
Certainly, there is a great deal of promise in the Dutch market. Since the opening of the regulated online gambling market in the Netherlands, the sector has been growing at a steady rate. As an important market on the Old Continent, the Dutch gambling sector is projected to continue growing in the next few years, according to industry experts. Hence, MGM is right on track to be sniffing around this industry.
Gary Fritz, President of MGM Resorts International Interactive, expressed his delight in the company’s plan, noting that this is an avenue for the business to become a global sensation.
“We are thrilled to launch BetMGM in the Netherlands and build on BetMGM’s successful expansion into global markets.
“The Dutch market offers an exciting opportunity and will be an important part of our international expansion efforts and strategy to become a global gaming leader.”
In other recent news, MGM is also on the move to explore Brazil online gambling market.
Meanwhile, the iGaming industry in the Netherlands is currently experiencing significant challenges. A large majority of the House of Representatives rejected resolutions seeking an overall ban on online gambling advertising and a ban on some online casino products.
The measures are now up to Franc Weerwind’s approval or override, as he is the minister for Legal Protection in the Netherlands.
According to the Netherlands Online Gambling Association (NOGA), players are being drawn to the illegal market by the House of Representatives’ vote to outlaw online slots and online gambling advertising.
NOGA further cautioned Weerwind against moving forward with decisions, adding that the house is attempting to compel a choice by using inaccurate data, assumptions, and worries that are not practical.
