Two adults were arrested Sunday after allegedly leaving three children in a hot Jeep while gambling at Seminole Classic Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
Lillian Mun, 32, and Terrence Wright, 42, face child neglect and unattended-vehicle charges, according to WKRC. Police described them as the children’s mother and stepfather.
Children found sweating in parked Jeep
Casino security reported finding three children who appeared unconscious inside a Jeep that was not running. When the door opened, the children were conscious and sweating, police said.
The windows were rolled up, and officers said they could feel heat coming from inside the vehicle. One of the children was 1 year old.
Police said the children were left alone for around an hour. They reportedly had no food, water or communication device to contact their parents.
The children were taken for evaluation but did not require medical attention.
Surveillance findings and bond decisions
Surveillance footage reportedly showed the Jeep parking and Wright walking toward the casino. Wright told law enforcement he had gone inside to use the bathroom.
Mun was reportedly seen in the turned-off Jeep with the children. She said she did not have the keys to start it.
Mun reportedly went into the casino to look for Wright and spent approximately 20 minutes inside. Police said surveillance showed Wright gambling, with Mun sitting at a nearby slot machine watching him and using her phone. At one point, both appeared to be playing a slot machine.
Police said Mun did not return to check on the children.
A judge denied Mun bond and set Wright’s bond at $22,500.
After the arrests, the children were released to a friend of Mun’s. The Department of Children and Families was notified.
