Gaming Edge’s TL;DR

  • MLB has signed an integrity memorandum with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and launched an official partnership with Polymarket to govern prediction market contracts tied to baseball.
  • This move gives Polymarket exclusive access to MLB logos and official Sportradar data while setting up confidential information-sharing and regular coordination between MLB and the federal regulator.

Major League Baseball announced a memorandum of understanding with Michael S. Selig, chair of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), and a commercial partnership with prediction market platform Polymarket.

Under the agreement, Polymarket and its brokers get exclusive use of MLB logos in their products and access to official league data via Sportradar. It commits MLB and the CFTC to confidentially share integrity-related information and meet regularly through designated representatives to respond to incidents and emerging trends.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred framed the deals as proactive steps to “protecting the integrity of the game,” while Selig said the partnership will add tools to guard prediction markets from fraud and manipulation.

The American Gaming Association, however, warned that a federal MOU does not replace state regulatory frameworks for sports betting.

MLB says it’s seeking more deals with prediction markets

The MLB–Polymarket tie-up may mean more polished, officially branded prediction products and clearer access to authenticated data, which can improve market transparency and user experience. Bettors should note that prediction markets trade event contracts (yes/no outcomes) that platforms argue fall under CFTC jurisdiction, so this agreement leans toward federal oversight rather than state sports-betting rules.

Operators face a split outcome: Polymarket gains commercial advantages and marketing lift, while other exchanges are being asked to add integrity protections into their rulebooks to keep offering baseball contracts. Financially, leagues can monetize a new fan-engagement channel.

MLB said it wants similar integrity pacts with other prediction exchanges, requiring rulebook updates and protective measures for baseball-linked contracts.
