Baltimore is laying 11.5 points to Tennessee, and we are taking the points. In each of the first three weeks, a favourite laying 8 or more has lost outright, and this week two teams are laying 10 or more. That is our strongest play of the slate.

Below are our best bets for Sunday, each with the price at which we would stop, the two games we are leaving alone, and a parlay for anyone wanting the longer price. We back short favourites with a clear matchup edge and fade the double-digit numbers.

All lines were checked on 1 October and are subject to movement. Confirm the current number at your sportsbook before acting.

Our Three Best Bets for Week 4

PickLinePlay it toConfidence
Titans at RavensTEN +11.5+10.5Highest
Under Dolphins at Vikings38.537.5Medium
Lions at Panthers (SNF)DET -3.5-4Medium

The “play it to” column matters. A good pick at one number can be a bad pick at another, so if the line moves past the limit, pass.

Best bet: Titans +11.5 at Ravens

This is a price play, not a prediction that Tennessee wins. We expect Baltimore to win. We do not expect it to win by 12 or more.

The number is the largest on the board, which puts it on the wrong side of the three-week pattern. Baltimore also hosts this game a week after the NFL’s first game in Rio de Janeiro, a long trip that can leave a team flat the following week. The Ravens’ defence has also struggled to get off the field this season, according to game tracking, which stretches games and keeps underdogs close.

The lean: Tennessee +11.5. Play it to +10.5.

Best bet: Under 38.5, Dolphins at Vikings

A low total, but we think the situation pushes it lower still.

Miami has lost De’Von Achane for the season, according to reports, which takes away its best offensive weapon. Minnesota leads the NFL in third-down defence at 22.7%, while its own offence ranks last in the league in yards per play. Justin Jefferson is also dealing with an ankle injury.

The risk is a Vikings blowout. A 28-10 final clears 38.5. But that needs Minnesota’s offence to do something it has not done yet.

The lean: under 38.5. Play it to 37.5.

nfk week 4 best bets

Best bet: Lions -3.5 at Panthers

Our favourite short favourite. The matchup is unusually clean.

Carolina’s Bryce Young has faced the third-highest pressure rate in the NFL. Detroit blitzes at the third-highest rate and generates pressure in the top eight. Carolina is also beaten up at receiver, running back and in the secondary, which is exactly where Detroit’s depth of skill players can punish a thin group.

The hook is uncomfortable. At -3.5, a three-point Detroit win does not cover. That is why we cap the price at -4.

The lean: Detroit -3.5. Play it to -4.

Two We Are Avoiding

Both are the lines that flipped. A number that has swung all the way through zero has already absorbed the news.

Packers at Buccaneers, GB -3.5 to -4

Tampa Bay opened as a 1.5-point favourite and Green Bay is now favoured by 3.5 to 4. Baker Mayfield’s thumb injury is the cause, and rookie Jalon Daniels is preparing for what would be his first NFL start, according to reports.

The quarterback gap is real, but a five-point move has priced most of it in. Wait for Friday’s designation. If Mayfield is ruled out and the line barely moves, revisit it.

Cardinals at Giants, ARI -1.5

The Giants opened as 2.5-point favourites and Arizona is now favoured by about 1.5, after New York lost quarterback Jaxson Dart to a knee injury and pass rusher Brian Burns. It scored no touchdowns against Tennessee last week.

Arizona is probably the better side. At roughly a field goal in either direction, there is no value left. Pass.

Week 4 Parlay: Three Legs

LegPickReasoning
1Bills -6.5New England averages 12 points per game and Drake Maye has thrown six interceptions and taken nine sacks
2Lions -3.5Matchup edge on Carolina’s pressure problem
3Under 38.5 (MIA at MIN)Depleted Miami offence against the league’s best third-down defence

Buffalo is the one to watch on price. At -6.5 a seven-point win covers, but at -7 it pushes and voids the ticket. Play the Bills to -7 only if you are comfortable with that risk.

A word on parlays. They pay more because they are harder to win, not because they offer better value. Three legs near even money returns roughly 6 to 1, and the true probability of all three landing sits below what that price implies once the juice compounds. Treat it as an entertainment stake, not the core of your week.

What Three Weeks of Results Taught Us

  • Fade the double-digit favourite. Arizona at +11.5, Cleveland at +8 and Washington at +8.5 all won outright. This week there are two favourites laying 10 or more.
  • Back the short favourite with an edge. The matchup is cleaner when the number is small, which is why Detroit and Buffalo are on this card.
  • Treat flipped lines as priced. Green Bay and Arizona have already moved through zero.
  • Price limits are part of the pick. A bet that is right at -3.5 can be wrong at -4.5.
  • Passing is a position. Several games on this board have no clean read.

Our Week 4 news roundup covers the four quarterback situations most likely to move these lines before kickoff.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best bet for NFL Week 4?

Titans +11.5 at Baltimore. It is the largest spread on the board, a favourite laying 8 or more has lost outright in each of the first three weeks, and the Ravens are hosting a week after the NFL’s first game in Rio de Janeiro.

What is the best total bet in Week 4?

Under 38.5 in Dolphins at Vikings. Miami has lost De’Von Achane for the season, according to reports, and Minnesota leads the league in third-down defence.

Which Week 4 games should you avoid?

Packers at Buccaneers and Cardinals at Giants. Both lines flipped on quarterback injuries and have already priced most of the news. Wait for Friday’s reports on Mayfield and the Giants quarterback situation.

What does “play it to” mean?

It is the worst price at which we would still take the pick. If we like Detroit at -3.5 and the line moves to -4.5, the pick is no longer the same bet, so we pass.

Is a Week 4 parlay worth it?

Only as an entertainment stake. Parlays pay more because they are harder to win, and compounding juice means the price rarely reflects true probability. Note that Buffalo at -7 would push on a seven-point win and void the ticket.

When do the Week 4 games kick off?

The week opens Thursday night with Steelers at Browns. The Colts and Commanders play in London at 9:30 a.m. ET on Sunday, Lions at Panthers is Sunday night on NBC, and Falcons at Saints closes the week on Monday.
