NHL Anytime Goal Scorer Picks

Artemi Panarin ()

The New York Rangers enter tonight as the favorites to win the Presidents’ Trophy. With just a few more games left to go, they lead the Carolina Hurricanes and Dallas Stars by one point. Part of the reason the Rangers have been so good is that they are solid between the pipes and have a very efficient offense.

Led by Artemi Panarin, New York ranks in the top 10 in goals (274) and power play conversion rate, and they are very good in five-on-five play. Tonight, the Rangers will take on an Ottawa team that can score but ranks toward the bottom in most defensive categories, including goals allowed per game.

Panarin is having the best season of his career, setting career-highs in points (118), goals (48), and assists (70). While he has not been as efficient over his last five games, he has a goal in each of his previous two and has found the back of the net in both games against the Senators this season.

Brayden Point ()

Betting an anytime goal scorer on a game featuring a team that has clinched a postseason spot and an eliminated team is always challenging. Tampa Bay is practically locked into the top wild card spot in the East, so there is not much to play for.

However, they play these games for a reason. Players are ready to compete, and the Lightning can put up a significant number against a struggling Buffalo team. The Sabres goaltender, Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, has struggled recently, allowing 13 goals in his last five and having only won four of his last 10 starts. As a whole, Buffalo’s defense ranks towards the bottom of the league.

The Lightning have one of the deepest offenses in hockey, led by Brayden Point, who leads the team with 45 goals and has been very effective on the advantage. Buffalo ranks 22nd in penalty minutes, which should give Point a solid opportunity to score if and when the Sabres are down a man.

Leon Draisaitl ()

The Oilers are in the playoffs but have lost two straight entering Monday night’s matchup against the Sharks. Although they don’t have much to play for, they have an excellent opportunity to get back on track heading into the postseason against one of the worst teams in the NHL.

San Jose ranks last in goals allowed and shots per game, and it has one of the worst penalty kills in the NHL. While the Sharks have been much better down the stretch, Edmonton has many ways to strike against a weak defense, including Leon Draisaitl.

During the two-game losing streak, Draisaitl has not been very productive. However, he still has 104 points and 41 goals this season. Getting this price for a top-goal producer to score against a horrendous defense is well worth a play.
