NHL Player Prop Bets: Thursday, April 11
Sidney Crosby Over Points
The Red Wings vs. Penguins could be one of the season’s biggest games. Both teams enter tonight with 84 points and trail the Washington Capitals by one point for the final Wild Card spot in the East.
There will be a lot of star power on the ice in this one, which should make for a very entertaining game. Although the Red Wings are the better team on paper, Pittsburgh is playing some of its best hockey of the season, and they have been very good on their home ice.
Still, Detroit is ranked in the top 10 in scoring on offense. For Pittsburgh to win this game, they will need Sidney Crosby to continue his impressive season. In his last five games, he has only gone over this points prop twice, but he has recorded a point in each of the previous two games, a win over Tampa Bay and an overtime loss to Toronto.
The Red Wings can put up a big number on any given night, especially with how well Patrick Kane is playing. However, Detroit ranks 27th in goals allowed per game, and when these two meet, it usually ends in fireworks.
At least nine goals have been scored in four of the last five matchups, and Crosby has registered a point in each game, including two this season.
At plus-money, Crosby’s points prop is well worth a look.
Tage Thompson Over Assists
The Buffalo Sabres had a real shot at making the postseason for the first time since 2011. However, a bad March has officially eliminated them from the postseason, and they can play spoiler tonight against the Washington Capitals.
Entering tonight, the Capitals hold a one-point lead for the final Wild Card spot. Washington has also struggled down the stretch, going 1-4-2 in its last seven games. Part of their late-season slump is due to the play between the pipes.
Charlie Lindgren picked up the win over Detroit in his last game out, but prior to that, he allowed 3.8 goals per game during the losing streak. His performance against the Red Wings was promising, but he has been wildly inconsistent all year.
That is where the Sabres can really do some damage tonight. Although Buffalo’s offense is one of the worst in the NHL, there are a few bright spots, including Tage Thompson. The 26-year-old has not been as good as last season, but he still is one of the top point scorers on the team.
Washington’s offense is what makes them so dangerous. However, a weak defense opens up many scoring opportunities for a young Sabres core. The Capitals rank 25th in xGA per 60 and 24th in unblocked shot attempts.
In their last matchup, Thompson put up two assists. He has not registered a point in Buffalo’s last two games, but a solid matchup tonight puts him in an excellent spot to cash this player prop.
NHL Player Prop Bets: Best Anytime Goal Scorer
Steven Stamkos ()
Our anytime goal scorer prop features one of the game’s best at finding the back of the net. While Steven Stamkos is well past his prime, he still has 39 goals this season and a favorable matchup against a poor Ottawa defense tonight.
The Senators rank 27th in goals allowed per game and have one of the worst power-play kill rates in the league. This should bode well for Tampa Bay, as they have a top-scoring offensive unit and rank first in power play conversation rate.
Part of the reason they are so good at scoring on the advantage is Stamkos. Just under half of his goals this year have come on the power play, and Stamkos is on fire entering this matchup. He is coming off a hat trick his last time out against Columbus and has scored a goal in his last six games, averaging 1.6 goals per game during this stretch.
Even though Tampa Bay is locked into the top Wild Card spot in the East, Stamkos is still worth an anytime goalscorer bet.
