Polymarket removed a market tied to a Cornell sexual assault case after public criticism, Front Office Sports reported.

The market was on its international prediction markets platform, not its U.S. app; rival Kalshi said it would not consider offering it.

The contract concerned whether any of seven male defendants accused in the case would face a felony sex-crime charge by Jan. 31, 2027. Its removal followed the initial publication of Front Office Sports’ report on Monday.

Cornell market drew more than $451,000 in volume

The market first became available Sept. 30. By early Monday afternoon, before its removal, it had recorded $451,633 in trading volume.

At that point, traders were pricing roughly a 28% chance of a “yes” resolution.

Attorney Cheyenne Hunt criticized the offering on Instagram, calling it “dehumanizing, disgusting, and dangerous.” Sexual assault advocacy nonprofit I Have The Right To also objected, asking: “What kind of culture looks at sexual violence and sees an opportunity for profit?”

The supplied reporting does not establish a further explanation from Polymarket for the removal or how existing positions were handled.

Polymarket defended the offering; Kalshi rejected it

In a statement to Front Office Sports, a Polymarket spokesperson defended the informational value of markets tied to legal proceedings.

“This case, and sexual assault on college campuses more broadly, are deeply important issues, and markets bring objective, data-driven insight into how a matter like this is moving through the legal system, on a topic that deserves far more transparency and honest attention,” the spokesperson said.

Kalshi spokesperson Elisabeth Diana offered a different response when asked about the Cornell market: “we would not consider it.”
