The Connecticut Lottery Corporation revealed today that they will use Sugarhouse for their sportsbook.
Sports betting is legal in Connecticut, and it’s expected to be launched next month. The Connecticut Lottery has been approved to operate a sportsbook and announced a partnership with BetRivers as its retail and online provider. The Mohegan Sun Casino & Resort, located in Uncasville, announced a partnered with FanDuel. Foxwoods Resort Casino in Ledyard has partnered with DraftKings.
The Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection’s Gaming Division (DCP) is in the process of reviewing the application by Connecticut Lottery Corporation, which comes in conjunction with partner Rush Street Interactive.
Why did Connecticut Lottery Corporation and RSI choose “PlaySugarHouse” as their brand name for a sportsbook? Because Connecticut law forbids the use of a name that promotes a retail casino brand. “Rivers” is already used throughout the state for casinos and resorts owned by RSI. Also, RSI has used the PlaySugarHouse brand in other legal states, such as New Jersey.
When Will Sports Betting Go Live in Connecticut?
Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont signed sports betting into law in May of 2021. Under the law, online poker may also be played in the state. At this point, license applications have been received and are being reviewed or approved. But there is no set date for a launch of sports betting in the state. Governor Lamont indicated that an October launch is possible.
