Super Bowl 57 betting odds on the Cleveland Browns have lengthened after QB Deshaun Watson received an 11-game suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

With the appeal process finally over, Watson’s suspension begins August 30. He won’t be available to play until November 28 when the Browns face his former team in Houston.

PointsBet made the most aggressive move, raising the Browns’ odds from +2000 to +5000.

Circa Sportsbook Director of Risk Chris Bennett told Gaming Today in a text that he had yet to move Cleveland’s odds as of 3 p.m. ET on August 18.

When Watson’s trade from Houston to Cleveland was announced in March, Super Bowl futures odds on the Browns shortened from +5000 to +1400 at the Westgate SuperBook. DraftKings moved the Browns from +2500 to +1500 upon news of the trade. FanDuel and BetMGM both offered Cleveland at +1600 after the addition of Watson.

Cleveland’s Season Win Total

Caesars Sportsbook opened with a total of 9.5 wins for Cleveland in late March after Watson was acquired by the Browns. PointsBet was among the first books to take Cleveland off the board for season win totals in April when Watson’s status became unclear again. PointsBet still had the Browns off the board for this betting market as of 1 p.m. ET on August 18.

After news of the 11-game suspension broke, DraftKings offered the Browns at 8.5 with the over at +110 and the under at -140. Circa was dealing Cleveland at 8 wins with the over set at -115 and the under at -105.

Browns’ Season Opener vs. Carolina

At the Westgate SuperBook in Las Vegas, the Browns were listed on June 29 as a 2.5-point road favorite against the Carolina Panthers in Week 1, an adjustment from an opening number of -4.5 with the uncertainty surrounding Watson.

When the Panthers acquired former Browns QB Baker Mayfield in early July, there was another adjustment in Carolina’s direction. Westgate offered the Panthers -1 after news of the 11-game suspension went public.

Browns-Panthers was offer the board at DraftKings and BetMGM as of 1 p.m. ET on August 18. FanDuel and PointsBet offered the Panthers -1.

QB Jacoby Brissett, who appeared in five games for Miami last season, is the likely starter in Week 1 at Carolina. He’ll face either Mayfield or Sam Darnold.

Brissett has proven to be a serviceable QB in spot duty in the past. But he’s a far cry from the generational talent that Watson would bring to the starting lineup.
