The Sweet 16 is set, and we have an excellent field this season. There are several intriguing matchups, including the No. 1 Houston Cougars taking on the No. 4 Duke Blue Devils. Here, we will break down the Duke vs. Houston odds and give our best predictions and best bets.
Houston survived a historic collapse against Texas A&M in the round of 32, which required overtime to hold off the Aggies. Meanwhile, Duke is fresh off a 93-55 beatdown of James Madison and is playing like the team we thought they would be at the beginning of the season.
Despite the tune of each team’s victory last round, Houston enters as a () point favorite. This should be a great matchup, and if you need help picking a side, we have got you covered with our Duke vs. Houston predictions.

Duke Betting Preview
Outside the first 10 minutes of its first-round matchup, Duke has looked awesome during March Madness. Freshman guard Jared McCain really blossomed into a star player towards the middle of the season, and he has been on a different level in the tournament.
In Duke’s second-round win over James Madison, McCain put up 30 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the field, including 8-of-11 from three. It also helps that Tyrese Proctor was hot from deep, and James Madison had no answers for Kyle Filipowski‘s size.
It became clear early that the talent advantage was too much for James Madison and Vermont to overcome. Heading into the Sweet 16 will be a different story. Houston has the best defense in the country, and their guard play on both ends of the court could be the most significant factor.
The Cougars allow the fewest made field goals, shooting percentage, and points per game. They also rank 10th in opponents’ three-point shooting percentage and are very strong down low. To advance to the Elite 8, Duke must find a way to hit some threes, which has not been a problem so far.
Houston Betting Preview
Houston dominated Longwood in the first round of March Madness. They took on Texas A&M in the second round and controlled the game for about 39 minutes before it all went to hell.
The Cougars were in foul trouble all night, and Texas A&M kept finding its way to the free-throw line to cut into the lead. Eventually, the Aggies hit a game-tying three at the buzzer to send it to overtime, erasing a 12-point deficient with two minutes left.
However, Houston was able to win in overtime. That kind of scare certainly adds more excitement to this game, as Duke is playing some of its best basketball of the season. The Duke vs. Houston spread indicates oddsmakers are expecting a tight game.
Duke struggles against top-tier defenses, and no unit is better than the Cougars. While offensive scoring may be an issue against a solid Duke defense, Houston has plenty of shotmakers to fall back on, including LJ Cryer, Jamal Shead, and Emanuel Sharp.
As long as Houston can hit some shots and defend the three-point line, it is hard to imagine anyone beating them.
Duke vs. Houston Predictions: Back The Cougars to Advance to the Elite 8
Houston’s offense does cause a little concern, mainly because they do not shoot the ball all that well.
However, in this matchup, they should be able to handle Duke’s fleet of athletic scorers. The Cougars rank 199th in shooting percentage, but they are still getting up 60.7 shots per game, which is enough to make me feel comfortable, as the defense will do enough to keep Duke off the scoreboard.
Rebounding will be a battle, as Duke crashes the glass very well. Agsint Texas A&M, Houston allowed 22 offensive boards, which is alarming, but most came off Texas A&M just blindly running to the rim and throwing up a shot.
Back Houston to win this game and cover the spread.
