MLB Player Props: April 9

Juan Soto Over () Walks

We are just 11 games into Juan Soto‘s Yankees career, and as expected, he is putting on a show. Entering tonight, Soto is slashing .357/.462/.548 with a 199 wRC+. While some slight regression may be on the horizon, one area where Soto continues to show an elite ability is plate discipline.

Soto’s OBP has always been one of the biggest strengths of his career, dating back to when he debuted at 19 years old. He registered a .406 OBP that season and has never dipped below .400.

This season, he has a 17.3% walk rate, which is slightly below his average, but he is also making more contact than ever, and his O-Swing% sits at just 15.3%, indicating that his eye at the plate is as locked in as ever.

Tonight, Soto and the Yankees will take on A.J. Puk and the Miami Marlins. Puk has never had too much trouble with his command for his career. However, he already has nine walks in six innings pitched this season. It also does not help that the Marlins’ bullpen has a 4.41 BB/9.

Most sportsbooks will have you lay some juice on this MLB player prop, but with how well Soto has looked at the plate, it is well worth a play.

Tyler Glasnow Under () Strikeouts

The former Tampa Bay Ray is off to a great start in Los Angeles.

Tyler Glasnow is 2-0 with a 3.18 ERA, and his xERA and xFIP point towards some positive regression. The only problem is he continues to have issues allowing a free pass. It’s still early, but Glasnow’s BB/9 of 3.71 is a little concerning.

He has had trouble throughout his career but could always fall back on his high whiff numbers and improving chase rate. Luckily, he has one of the most strikeout-heavy offenses in baseball tonight in the Minnesota Twins. On the season, Minnesota has the fourth-highest strikeout rate, and the offense as a whole is pretty ineffective, ranking 29th in runs scored.

However, the Twins also rank 11th in BB%. As long as they can force Glasnow to pitch deeper into counts, they can balloon his pitch count and force him out of the game earlier than he should be. There is no doubt that he will be hovering around this strikeout prop tonight, but Minnesota does a nice enough job keeping innings alive.

It also helps that the Dodgers are infinitely better at baseball than the Twins, so a big lead could have Glasnow hit the showers early, especially with his injury history.

MLB Player Props: Best Anytime Home Run Pick

Christian Walker ()

Anytime you can bet on a power bat at Coors Field, you should probably do so.

Early season results for Christian Walker have been very mixed. While his three home runs and 130 wRC+ are encouraging, he also has a 33.3% strikeout rate and is making significantly less contact on pitches in the zone.

Tonight, he has a favorable matchup against Cal Quantrill and the Rockies. In his first two starts with Colorado, Quantrill has a 9.00 ERA, is giving up a ton of hard contact, and is walking more batters than ever. He has also only struck out four batters in nine innings pitched. During his time with Cleveland, Quantrill was never a strikeout pitcher, but his K/9 started at 8.72 in 2020 and has gone down every season, including a dismal 4.00 strikeout rate in 2024.

Even with Walker’s increased strikeout rate, he is not chasing pitches, and when he makes contact, it is noticeable, as he enters with a 25% barrel rate.
