Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment (MGE), a Connecticut-based developer and operator of casinos and resorts, will launch a division focused on Internet Gaming. Mohegan Digital will allow the parent company to evolve new iGaming products for their own properties and casinos, as well as for customers.

MGE operates provides entertainment technology for several casinos and resorts across the U.S. including Connecticut, Nevada, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Washington, and in Canada. Their flagship resort is the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut.

The decision coincides with a reworking of an agreement between MGE and Kambi Group Plc that soldifies their partnership on gaming services in Connecticut, which has passed legislation legalizing sports betting, but is in the phase of devising regulations for that activity.

The creation of Mohegan Digital sends a signal that the company is committed to the success of sports betting in Connecticut. It’s expected that Kambi and MGE will also explore agreements to work on gaming and sports betting services in other states.

“Over the years, Mohegan has made great technological advancements in the digital space, working with industry-leading partners to provide state-of-the-art advancements to casino and sportsbook online operations,” said Ray Pineault, President, and CEO of Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment. “With Mohegan Digital we are looking to expand and enhance these efforts to elevate the experience and deliver on our promise to provide world-class entertainment for our guests on a digital scale.”

When Can I Bet On Sports In Connecticut?

In May of 2021, the Connecticut State Senate passed legislation that cleared the way for sports betting in the state. The law is now being reviewed by the Department of Interior because in Native American tribes will be involved in the rollout of sports betting and online gaming in the state. Once that approval is received, the state must appoint a regulatory body and issue the operations and oversight guidelines. Then they can begin to accept applications for sports betting licenses. It’s expected that legalized online sports betting will be available in the Nutmeg State before the end of 2021, possibly before the NFL season begins in the fall.
