Gaming Edge: Kalshi is adding guardrails for traders aged 18 to 20, starting with a $2,500 monthly deposit limit. The prediction market says it wants to curb addiction and promote responsible trading ahead of the US midterm elections.

New limits and alerts on Kalshi

Kalshi is strengthening safeguards for young-adult traders on its platform. Traders aged 18 to 20 will start with a $2,500 monthly deposit limit.

The platform will also alert new traders with balances above $1,000 if they put more than 25% of their funds into a single trade.

Prediction market platforms such as Kalshi and Polymarket let users trade on outcomes ranging from sports and elections to military operations. They have drawn criticism from people who argue the products resemble gambling and carry addiction risk.

Age policy and parent resources

Kalshi chief operating officer and co-founder Luana Lopes Lara explained the company’s age policy and said new traders need more education and safeguards. "Like the stock exchange, Kalshi is available only to traders 18 and older," she said.

Kalshi also announced partnerships with Parent ProTech and ConnectSafely to publish parents’ guides to prediction markets.
