White Sox vs. Royals SGP: Three Best Props
Seth Lugo 6+ Strikeouts Thrown (+105)
Kansas City is coming off a brutal loss to the Orioles last night. Today, they will send out Seth Lugo, who had an excellent first start in 2024. Although his xERA and xFIP are pointing towards some eventual regression, this White Sox lineup is not the one to kickstart that process.
The White Sox’s offense ranks towards the bottom in wRC+ (65), BA (.181), SLG (.329), and runs (11). They also have the third-highest strikeout rate (28%) and rank last in OBP (.244). Simply put, there is no genuine threat in this lineup outside of Luis Robert Jr., and even he is off to a tough start in 2024.
Lugo’s strikeout rate has declined in each of the last four seasons (not counting this year), but his first start this year was very promising. In six innings pitched, he registered a 14% swinging strike rate and got guys to chase out of the zone at a higher clip than average.
This is his first season as a starter, and he has looked the part so far. Regression will come eventually, especially with his rising barrel and hard-hit rates, but that won’t start tonight.
Bobby Witt Jr. 1+ RBI (+135)
Despite the 2-4 record to start 2024, Kansas City’s lineup looks very dangerous this season. As expected heading into the year, it begins with franchise shortstop Bobby Witt Jr., who has been tearing the cover off the ball.
Entering tonight, Witt slashes .400/.464/.880 with a 1.344 OPS and 281 wRC+. He also has five barrels in 25 ABs, and his 76.5% HardHit% is pretty impressive. It has only been six games, but Witt is seeing the ball so well right now that it is hard not to look at his player props against a terrible White Sox team.
Chicago is sending out Mike Soroka, who once looked like a vital piece of the Atlanta Braves rotation. However, he has only registered a sub-3.5 ERA once in his career, and 2023 was his worst season yet. Soroka put up a 6.70 ERA, and his barrel rate jumped to 11% last year.
His first start of 2024 was not much better. In five innings, he allowed four runs, three walks, and no strikeouts. While Witt is slightly worse against right-handed pitching, he has a favorable matchup against a guy who has suddenly given up a ton of power.
Bet on Witt to stay hot and plate another run tonight.
Kansas City Royals Over 4.5 Runs Scored (-105)
Yes, our White Sox vs. Royals SGP features all Kansas City prop bets. That is for good reason, however, as Chicago is genuinely in the running for the worst team in baseball.
Kansas City has been crushing the ball, but it has only resulted in 24 runs and a 102 wRC+, both of which are around league average. A high fly-ball rate with the top barrel% in the league should eventually translate into more home runs and extra-base hits.
The offense behind Witt needs to wake up a bit, and this could be the spot for it to happen, especially with how the road trip in Baltimore played out. They are only 2-4 on the season, but the Royals played the defending AL East champs very tight on their home field, and they just could not pull out a win.
This is a spot at home against possibly the worst team in the league to do some damage and relieve some frustrations. Soroka’s recent uptick in power allowed is concerning, and the White Sox bullpen has not been much better, allowing a 9.4% barrel rate and ranking 29th in HardHit%.
Bet the Royals’ offense to have a big day and go over their team total for runs scored.
