The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board announced earlier today that Betway has been approved for a three-day live test launch as an online sportsbook and casino in the state. Should the three-day test go without a hitch, Betway would be granted approval for permanent online gaming operations commencing Thursday, July 1st.

The test period for Betway’s sportsbook and casino will run from 1 to 9 PM on Monday, 11 AM to 9 PM on Tuesday, and 9 AM to 9 PM on Wednesday, June 30th.

Betway would become the 13th online sportsbook and 17th online casino to operate in Pennsylvania, where the growth in gaming has surged since the U.S. Supreme Court ruled PASPA as unconstitutional in 2018, overturning the mandate after 26 years in effect. The state had legalized online sports betting and casinos the previous year, but was forced to wait until the federal laws were stricken.

Under Pennsylvania law, an internet gaming company must have an arrangement with one of the state’s licensed casino operators. According to reports, Betway has secured an agreement with the Cordish Gaming Group owned Live! Philadelphia casino. Previously, Live! entered an agreement with FanDuel to operate retail sportsbooks at two of their locations. Neither of the Live! agreements with FanDuel or Betway is exclusive.

As we reported, Pennsylvania ranked second in online sports betting handle for May, behind only New Jersey.

Betway Continues To Extend Reach In U.S. Market

Earlier in 2021, Betway debuted online casinos and sportsbooks in Colorado and Indiana. It has built various marketing relationships in recent months with U.S. sports entities, most notably the NHL, to begin increasing its brand awareness. Betway is in an agreement with Digital Gaming Corp. USA, based in New Jersey to offer its gaming products in the United States. Betway’s parent company is headquartered in the United Kingdom, where they have long been active in the gaming industry in that country and elsewhere in Europe.

Betway is certain to inch their way into other states in the future. Earlier this year, the Cleveland Cavaliers announced a partnership with Betway to provide Betway games to their fans once online and mobile sports betting is legalized in that state.
