How To Use a 3-Way No-Vig Calculator

3-Way No-Vig lines are common in sports like hockey or soccer, where draws happen with relative frequency. These sports often have three-way moneylines: one for each team and one for a tie/draw.

This page includes a built-in 3-Way No-Vig Calculator to find the best bets and markets for a given game or match.

3-Way No-Vig Calculator

It helps to understand a few key terms when using our 3-Way No-Vig Calculator.

  • American Odds: The odds for each section of the bet you’re calculating (you can find these at the best US online sportsbooks).
  • True Probability: The likelihood of each outcome, listed as a percentage and based on the odds set by the sportsbook.
  • No-Vig Odds: Fair odds for the given bet without the sportsbook’s vig or juice added in.

What Are 3-Way Odds?

3-Way odds are common in sports like soccer or hockey, where games can be decided in overtime and/or end in a draw.

Sportsbooks offer 3-Way odds on NHL game odds (and other hockey leagues) where you can select either team to win the game in regulation time or choose the “tie” option, which requires the game to be tied after 60 minutes and headed to OT. In these cases, a “tie” bet is settled regardless of overtime or shootout results. Hockey bettors will get quite long odds when picking a tie.

The most important thing to understand about 3-Way betting lines is that a wager on either team will lose if the result is a tie at the end of regulation time. In contrast, a 2-Way betting market will result in a push if the end result is a tie.

Historically, 3-Way fair odds have primarily been the concern of soccer bettors. However, with the proliferation of online sportsbooks and the sheer number of options bettors have at their fingertips, these types of bets are becoming more commonplace in other sports.

This calculator aims to help bettors understand the probabilities and vig associated with this type of bet.

When To Use a 3-Way No-Vig Calculator

Use our 3-Way No-Vig Calculator whenever you’re considering a 3-Way bet. The tool can help you suss out the fair odds and the sportsbook’s vig, which we’ll describe below. The 3-Way moneyline structure makes it harder to see where the sportsbook’s advantage lies, so calculating the fair odds separately can give bettors a lot of new insight into their choices.

What Is Sportsbook Vig or Juice?

In sports betting, the vig (or juice) is the commission or fee a bookmaker receives on each placed wager. The difference between the offered payout and what the payout “should” be is based strictly on the probability.

In 2-Way bets, the vig is fairly easy to see. For example, in a wager where both outcomes are considered equally likely to occur, the odds are typically -110. This means the bettor must wager $110 to win $100 in profit. If you think of the game as a coin flip where you win $100 every time the coin lands on heads and you lose $110 every time the coin lands on tails, you can see that you will lose money in the long run if the coin is fair.

In this case, the fair odds should be +100, meaning you would still win $100 for each head but only lose $100 for each tail. The difference between losing $100 and $110 is the vig or the juice, and it guarantees that the sportsbooks will make money as long as there are a roughly even number of bettors on each side.

With 3-Way odds, the vig can be a little more difficult to see. That’s why this 3-Way calculator is very useful to bettors.

Understanding fair odds will help you make informed bets and avoid betting against the bookmaker’s built-in advantage.

Using a 3-Way No-Vig Calculator

The 3-Way No-Vig Calculator only works with moneylines that have three options (win, lose, or draw). If you’re looking for a traditional moneyline calculator, we have one available.

To use this calculator, find the game you want to bet on at your preferred sportsbook. Once you have the game pulled up, navigate to the 3-Way moneyline odds.

From there, head to our calculator and plug in each of the odds in the fields under “American Odds.” The calculator won’t work with fractional or decimal odds, but you can convert both types to the American format.

With the odds plugged in, just click “Calculate.”

3-Way No-Vig Calculator Example

Let’s walk through using the 3-Way Calculator from start to finish. When you first open the tool, it will have three placeholder odds listed at -110 each. Our first task is to find the odds on the game we wish to bet on and fill them in to replace those -110s.

Let’s say we want to bet on Southampton vs. Manchester United. The odds are Southampton +320, Draw +290, and Manchester United -135. Let’s plug those into the calculator.

The order of the odds doesn’t matter. We used the same order as the sportsbook to keep things simple, but you can arrange them in whatever works best for you.

Next, click “Calculate” to summon the True Probability and No-Vig Odds of these bets.

Now, we can compare the calculator’s true probabilities of each outcome to help decide our bet.

3-Way No-Vig Calculator FAQ

A 3 Way No-Vig line shows you the fair odds of a 3-Way moneyline bet, which usually contains odds to win, lose, or draw. Our calculator shows these odds to help bettors make informed decisions.

You should use our calculator when considering a 3-Way moneyline bet, no matter the side you wish to bet on.

Sportsbooks use a combination of data and insights to construct their odds for soccer. A team’s past performance against an opponent and statistics go a long way in formulating the odds.

A No-Vig line is a display of the odds if the sportsbook didn’t apply vig, which is the sports betting equivalent of the house edge.

You can calculate 3-Way sportsbook line odds and probabilities using our calculator. With three options in the mix, it’s a lot harder to do the math in your head than for 2-Way moneylines.
