Basketball fans will find odds from BetMGM and content from NBA TV together in a new initiative called NBABet, the two parties announced on Thursday.
NBABet will provide betting-centric content to NBA TV, NBA.com., the NBA mobile app, and a new Twitter handle called @NBABet. The content will launch on Friday, just in time for the NBA Playoffs, which are ramping up as the first round begins this weekend.
Professional Leagues Partnering With Betting Brands
The partnership between the National Basketball Association and BetMGM is the latest of many relationships forged by professional sports leagues and the gambling industry. Legalized sports betting continues to expand and gain popularity in the United States since the repeal of PASPA.
About half of the states have passed laws to legalize sports betting at retail sportsbooks and through mobile betting apps in some of those. Additional states have legalized mobile betting and are finalizing regulations to launch later this year, including New York, Arizona, and Maryland.
Pro sports leagues are pursuing partnerships with gambling companies and media/content producers to generate interest in gambling on their sports.
NBABet Content
Several media outlets will contribute to the content branded as NBABet, including Bleacher Report, Turner Sports, and Yahoo! Sports. The programming will be produced by WarnerMedia Studios in Atlanta. NBABet will debut at 6:30 PM EST on Friday, May 21, on NBA TV. The channel will feature basketball highlights and news with a betting focus.
